The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a skilled and driven Technical Operations Technician II to join our team in Cheyenne. In this vital role, you'll help ensure the safety and efficiency of Wyoming’s transportation system by supporting the installation, maintenance, and testing of advanced electronic traffic detection and telemetry equipment.
Working under limited supervision, you’ll play a key part in maintaining compliance with federal highway standards and internal road design requirements. Your work will directly support WYDOT’s mission to deliver a safe, high-quality, and reliable transportation network for the people of Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
+ Performs repairs and upgrades on electronic traffic monitoring and communication equipment
+ Trains office personnel on the use of equipment
+ Researches new traffic monitoring equipment
+ Isolates failed traffic monitoring devices, repairs, and bench tests equipment to ensure proper operation
+ Trains personnel on traffic monitoring equipment hardware and software and ensures they understand before deploying to the field
+ Trains personnel on the use of field test equipment
+ Field coordination
+ Reviews the list of failed traffic, and monitoring sites and determines what action needs to be taken
+ Leads the construction crew in the absence of the field technician
+ Travels statewide to troubleshoot recurring field problems
+ Liaisons with equipment vendors to research, purchase, and resolve problems with monitoring equipment
+ Works with vendors to resolve problems
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Skilled in the use of electronic test equipment
+ Skilled in the use of personal computers and various software programs
+ Able to communicate complex principles of electronic equipment operations to personnel with limited background in the field
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Some agencies may require a valid Class C driver's license.
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Some agencies may require a valid Class C driver's license.
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ May work in extreme weather and involve heavy lifting
+ Works at heights of 40 feet and below out of a bucket or lift truck

+ Temporary employees accepting a full-time permanent position
+ Acceptance of a permanent full-time non-exempt/exempt position posted for public recruitment
+ Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public
+ One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive. Funds will be recouped from final pay
+ Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date
+ Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period
+ If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
