Technical Manager, Fresh Foods

We’re currently recruiting for a Technical Manager, Fresh Foods based at our Support Centre in Bradford. The post holder will cover a 12 month fixed term contract.

This is an exciting role providing technical advice and supporting the trading category so that business and commercial improvements are delivered.

The role will include days in the office (typically 3 days) and travel, we would ask that all applicants reside within a reasonable distance of our head office and hold car driving licences.

About The Role

Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager you’ll be responsible for:

Delivering safety, legality, quality and integrity of Morrisons Own Brand products, ensuring customer’s health is always protected.

Planning and implementing the Quality Check programmes to assess product consistency and drive improvements where required

Reviewing customer complaint trends, social media posts and media reviews to identify product issues and implement actions for improvements

Ensuring that there is a formally agreed product specification in place for Morrisons own brand products to ensure they are safe, legal and fit for intended purpose

Developing and issue clear and concise technical standards, policies, procedures and communications for key stakeholders

Completing the technical selection process including risk assessment to authorise approval status to new suppliers to Morrisons

Assess the supplier integrity programme for product area, monitoring performance of suppliers against key KPI’s and work with the trading team to ensure the category is working with the right suppliers and manufacturing sites

Verifying that all manufacturing sites are routinely audited against the Morrisons Manufacturing Standard and any necessary corrective action plans are implemented by suppliers in a timely manner

Maintaining the delivery of the end to end quality process in product categories and consulting with trading teams to ensure that customer’s quality expectations are delivered.

Conduct timely investigation and instigating the product withdrawal and recall processes based on sound risk assessment for any incident affecting Morrisons own brand products and support branded product incidents. All issues should be closed with robust corrective actions.

Providing commercially sensitive, objective, technical expertise and advice in categories in order to improve profitability

Providing safe, legal, ethical and successful products that are launched right the first time against an agreed critical path that consistently meet our customer’s expectations and agreed quality standards.

About you

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has:

A Science Degree or equivalent

Postgraduate experience in the food industry

Working knowledge of HACCP to deliver product safety

Review supplier capability and implement approval plans as required

Incident management and recommendation of actions

Both breadth and depth of experience in specific product areas. Experience in Dairy and Prepacked Fresh Foods is desirable.

Ability to identify risk (brand damage, customer safety, compliance with food law) and manage to an acceptable level

Ability to influence business decisions that impact on product safety, integrity and quality

Control of supplier approval through audit. Formal qualification desirable

Checking product quality to uphold customer expectations

Tenacity to follow up and resolve issues
