Summary:
Rockwell Automation is looking for a Technical Leader to deliver our Platform Automation and Developer Experience practice. Rockwell is a technology company, building a mix of hardware, software, and services solutions supporting high demand manufacturing customers. Our technology stacks are diverse as are our environments where software is constructed. The Technical Leader will partner with multiple Development teams in the long-term architecture, provisioning, monitoring, and enrichment of Development Environments, with the ultimate goal of improving the Developer Experience through Platform Automation.
We are looking for someone with a background in modern software platforms, how to productize platform components, solve production issues in the SDLC, and ensure Development teams to autonomously consume platform level components. You will lead the construction of a democratized, self-service, library of reusable platform components – treating each component as a product and automating the product's lifecycle.
This is a hands-on position requiring technical skills and the ability to gain the trust/cooperation of other, technical teams.
You will report to Senior Engineering Manager, IT and have a hybrid schedule working in Pune-Hinjewadi, India.
Your Responsibilities:
Lead/Build a team dedicated to improving the experience of Rockwell's Developers through the automation of all technology and compute platform components in lower and production environments.Develop and implement a strategy to enhance the developer experience across the organization. This is to include infrastructure services allowing developers to work from anywhere.Ensure stream/product aligned teams to complete work with substantial autonomy.Lead the creation and adoption of a shared service for CI/CD pipeline platform components to improve development workflows and automate provisioning of lower environments.Partner across Rockwell's Development teams in the creation of a shared, self-service library of platform components.Partner across Rockwell's Development teams in the creation of repeatable CI/CD pipelines and pipeline classes, using common pipeline templates wherever possible.Collaborate with Development, Security, and Infrastructure teams in the creation and operational support of lower environments tailored to improve the experience of Developers while maintaining the security of Rockwell's Intellectual Property.Champion complete build and production support automation and help create a culture of automation at Platform layers.Build observability into build chains, CI/CD pipelines, and automations of all environments.Collaborate with Build/DevOps/SRE Engineers in the creation and operational support of CI/CD pipelines and pipeline templates.Productize and maintain a library of versioned Platform components and orchestration scripts developed anywhere at Rockwell.Creation or standardise test cases in CI/CD pipelines for the proper use of Platform Components, Operational Readiness, Architectural Understanding, UX for the IDP, or similar tests.Establish metrics, and monitor Platform products to measure developer satisfaction and productivity.Stay up to date with the latest trends in developer tools, platforms, and methodologies.Advocate for and implement developer-friendly practices.The Essentials - You Will Have:
Bachelor's degree in software engineering, MIS, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant work experience.
8 years' experience leading systems or platform development teams.Track record in modern software architectures, the required underlying platforms, and their management burdens.4 years' experience leading DevSecOps teams, supporting CI/CD pipelines, to drive both operational excellence and adaptability in the SDLC.Experience with Continuous Delivery practices, Agile/SAFe, across a large organization.Lead a diverse group of peers into a common solution framework.The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
Solid skills in the creation of Technical Roadmaps – organizing work for the development team following Scrum/Agile principles.Extraordinary – the successful candidate should come prepared with stories demonstrating improvement in developer experience.Deep understanding of successful platform components, their architecture, durability, provisioning, monitoring, and lifecycle.A classic “systems thinker” – able to see all the working parts and chart a path to an end solution.Experience with innovation in platform automation and IDPs – linking network, system, storage, DBs, meshes, and other sub-components of applications into a consumable product across an organization.What We Offer:
