Technical Data Expert
Business unit Parts and Field Service is a global organisation with harmonised ways of working and tools to deliver the best possible services for our customers. Our Workshop Engineering team is dedicated to supporting workshops in digitising core operations and enabling new business opportunities through advanced technology and information systems.
Are you passionate about technical data, digital transformation, and making a tangible impact in global workshop operations?
We are excited to announce that we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Data Expert to join our team for an 18-month fixed-term contract. Based on project progress, business needs, and individual performance, there is strong potential for extension.
The preferred location for this role is Vaasa, Finland. However, other Wärtsilä locations with operational workshops may also be considered, including sites in Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, UAE, and the UK. Being based at a workshop location is strongly preferred to enable close collaboration with workshop personnel and ensure hands-on involvement in system implementation and support. Our team embraces a hybrid work model, so you’ll have the flexibility to work partially remotely.
What will you be doing?
As a Technical Data Expert, you will play a key role in driving the digital transformation of our Workshop Execution System (WES) by developing and refining technical documentation, digital templates, and measurement records. This role is essential to ensuring high-quality, standardised, and efficient workshop operations across our global network.
Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:
Developing and maintaining digital Inspection Reports (IRs) and Overhaul Reports (ORs) for WES. Digitising and optimising Measurement Records (MRs) for workshop use. Supporting the optimisation and creation of the WAMS Service Product (SP) structure. Contributing to the QCP project by reviewing and compiling workshop-relevant instructions into structured, accessible formats. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure content accuracy, usability, and alignment with engineering standards. Coordinating and supporting subcontracted resources, ensuring quality and timely delivery. Maintaining documentation revision control and ensuring compliance with audit and quality standards.
The following will enable you to succeed in this role:
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, IT, or a related technical field. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in technical documentation, workshop systems, or engineering support roles. Strong understanding of workshop processes, service product structures, and technical reporting. Experience with digital tools and systems (e.g., WES, WAMS, Power BI, or similar platforms). Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage large volumes of technical data effectively. Strong communication and coordination skills, particularly in cross-functional and multicultural environments. Proficiency in English; additional languages are considered an advantage. Willingness to travel to support global operations and collaborate with regional workshops.
In addition, the ideal candidate is:
Familiar with Wärtsilä systems and internal processes. Experienced in managing or supporting digital transformation projects. Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
