Cloudways—our managed web hosting division, offers powerful cloud hosting solutions for growing digital businesses of all sizes. Now, we’re looking for a Technical Writer, Product Marketing to help shape how we articulate the Cloudways proposition to the market.

This role is aligned to the Cloudways business unit. We are looking for a Technical Content Writer to join our Product Marketing team at DigitalOcean, reporting to the Director Product Marketing. We are not looking for a generalist writer. This is a specialized technical writing role where you will be responsible for working with the product management and product marketing teams to translate deeply technical propositions into content that educates, informs and trains Cloudways users on how to get the most out of the platform. 

You will own the creation of high-impact technical content that educates developers, empowers digital agencies, and drives product adoption for Cloudways and its stack (WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP frameworks, and more). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of research-driven content engineering, specifically for the cloud computing and web hosting industries. You will be comfortable context switching to support a broad portfolio of products. 

The postholder will:

Know how to spin technical depth into narrative-driven content that educates and converts. Understand cloud hosting, the WordPress ecosystem, and WooCommerce. Has experience constructing go-to-market (GTM) strategies Has written real tutorials with working code, shell commands, config files, architecture diagrams, and actual performance benchmarks. Collaborate with Onboarding and Customer Success teams to uncover customer pain points and transform these into actionable, value-driven content.  Know how to interact with a developer, sysadmin, or a product manager to identify the narrative worth publishing. Can write product announcements, create screencasts and product demos, translating technical specifications into layman terms

Please note: this role is for builders, not brochure writers. Your expertise is required to help real customers solve real problems using technology, telling stories in a way that drives signups, converts readers, and builds advocates of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Content Engineering

Write in-depth tutorials on server management, performance tuning, deployment, and WordPress scaling. Write and update product roadmap as well as changelog.  Author and update Knowledge Base articles to reduce support load and enable customer success. Write and update competitor battle cards for sales and customer success teams. Write and update email workflows and onboarding content for new and existing products. Develop and execute video demos and screencasts using tools like Loom, Camtasia, or OBS. Create case studies and solution walkthroughs that showcase real customer wins.

Research & Strategy

Analyze GTM positioning, personas, and competitors. Deep dive into Reddit, Facebook groups, and review sites to find what real users care about. Lead competitive content gap analyses and turn insights into ranked content pieces.

Collaboration & Co-Creation

Partner with engineers, product managers, customer support, and SMEs to bring technical authenticity to every piece. Conduct interviews with Cloudways customers, transforming these into case studies that build trust through storytelling. Support the product marketing lifecycle from feature launch to lifecycle messaging through content.

Required Qualifications

5+ years in technical writing/content marketing for WordPress, Hosting or Cloud focused business. Deep expertise in the WordPress ecosystem (can spin up a site, debug issues) Proven ability to write real, production-level code for WordPress/WooCommerce. Strong grasp of developer workflows, pain points, and decision-making triggers. Bonus if you have: Screencasting skills, experience in open-source contribution. The salary range for this position is based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
