Role Summary/Purpose
The dept is responsible for creating and revising our product maintenance publications such as Service Bulletins, Component Maintenance Manuals and Illustrated Parts Catalogues. We utilise an outsource strategy for the core writing/illustrating activity with minimal writing activity in-house. Your role will be management and planning of outsourced workload. Reporting to the Technical Publications Manager, you will be accountable for the successful planning, implementation and delivery of assigned avionics and electrical power technical publications programmes. The role will involve strong negotiation, communication and leadership skills to successfully interface with customers, stakeholders and team members. You will be responsible for regularly reviewing project deliverables and monitoring our suppliers performance.
Essential Responsibilities
Project control and execution of assigned technical publications programmesSupplier and customer liaisonParticipate in programme reviews and new product bid meetingsDrive actions/resolutions necessary to achieve on-time delivery and agreed quality levelsPrioritise tasks in an environment where customer/business needs are not always clearCreate internal quotes/estimates for new and legacy product programmesCreate data packs and statements of work for outsourced workHold regular programme and quality reviews with our suppliersWork closely with Product Support Engineering to maintain publication accuracyEditing/quality check of publications to conform with writing and customer specifications and to ensure the supplier has correctly implemented engineering changesFor operational reasons, write/revise technical publications as necessaryCustomer Discrepancy Report (CDR) analysis and processingUtilise the GE proprietary lean Flight Deck principles including but not limited to Daily & Visual Management, Standard Work, Value Stream ManagementTypical administrative activities within a technical publications dept.Any other task that may reasonably be requested by the businessQualifications / Requirements
HNC/HND or equivalent in an engineering disciplineDemonstrated Technical Authoring experience in a Technical Publications deptExperienced in and able to apply the requirements of ATA100, ATA iSpec2200 and ASD STE Simplified EnglishUse of or understanding of specification S1000D or applicable knowledge of XML or SGML is desirableExperienced in reading and interpreting technical drawings, test procedures, engineering modifications, bills of material and other typical aerospace engineering dataPC literate and proficient in the in the use of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office programmes including Word, Excel and a working knowledge of AccessExperienced in cost and workload estimatingExperience of supplier liaison/managementDemonstrated experience in planning and managing programmesKnowledge of UK and US Military Export legislation.Desired Characteristics
