Job Summary Team member is responsible for performing all specimen processing procedures. Team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. This position will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software as necessary. Essential Functions:• Specimen Processing – Verifies that patient and specimen information is complete and correct;accurately and efficiently inputs patient and specimen information into the computer; organizeswork and performs order entry of specimens received to meet established turn-around-times.Verifies patient identity and performs processing services accurately and efficiently as needed.• Documentation – Maintains required documentation for all lab procedures. Processes requisitionsfor testing.• Education – Successfully completes educational activities to continually improve skills and assistsconsultants. Practices safety policies to maintain a safe working environment. Performs all dutiesto satisfy regulations in preparation for inspections. Assigned to work with staff on training.• Customer Support – Provides information and consultation to requestors. Recognizes andpromotes interdependencies with other areas.• Operations Management – Practices efficient use of supplies and materials.• Strategic Planning – Participates in improvement of methods and processes.• Teamwork and Communication – Work within a team to achieve patient and team goals. Shareand initiate regular and professional communication with co-workers. Participates in regular staffmeetings.• Operational – Employee must possess sufficient motor skill and manual dexterity to obtain andmanipulate specimens in a manner that does not endanger themselves and other when workingwith combative patients. Qualifications + Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred. + Experience: One year of relevant phlebotomy and/or specimen processing experience, preferred. + Licensure/Certification: For Phlebotomy cert in facs where Phleb req in role: ASCP, ASPT, AMT, or NHA. preferred. + Additional Skills (required): + For facilities where Phlebotomy is a requirement of the role, the certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment. + Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public.
