This position reports to the Sr. Director, Technical Accounting & Sustainability Reporting and is located in Loveland, CO.

 

What you will do:

Oversee the resolution of technical and business accounting issues arising from complex transactions. Consult on issues related and present strategic solutions to Global Business Unit leadership, Corporate Reporting and Accounting groups, Business Development, Treasury, and External Audit. Act as a centre of expertise throughout the company on matters in technical accounting, financial disclosures and transaction principles and compliance. Provide advice on the application and implications of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Provide research and guidance for quarterly and year-end continuous disclosures in compliance with IFRS and Canadian and US regulatory requirements. Provide advice on complex accounting procedures and changes to accounting policies, and disclosure requirements. Advise and provide research support to the Business Development/M&A team for acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, strategic alliances or reorganizations. Review and/or perform the technical accounting aspects of impairment testing. Project manage any changes introduced through new reporting or corporate accounting requirements. Take on a lead project role with respect to ad hoc initiatives across the group. Act as the interface between non-finance line management and the finance support team from an accounting and disclosure compliance perspective. Respond to ad hoc enquiries as they occur on a case-by-case basis. Provide professional development to other financial professionals throughout Nutrien. Periodically take on the project manager role for initiatives within the Finance function or cross functionally, and act as an advisor or key accounting or finance rep on cross-functional or cross-Business Unit projects.

 

What you will bring:

Professional accounting designation with minimum of 10 years work experience, ideally 5 of which are post-qualification experience. Personality and communication skills to work at all levels of the company, quickly establishing credibility and trust with internal and external stakeholders. Broad understanding of how business processes and cycles affect accounting and financial disclosures and the ability to work effectively with both operating units and corporate functions in the resolution of issues. In depth and up to date technical knowledge of accounting principles and Canadian and U.S. regulatory compliance requirement. Detailed knowledge of IFRS. Exposure to accounting issues of large public companies. Eye for detail while also having a broad conceptual understanding of the application of accounting and materiality in a multifaceted business environment. Problem-solving skills with complex accounting transactions and regulatory and disclosure issues. Previous involvement in transaction support and/or acquisition accounting. Exceptional skills in effectively managing multiple tasks within defined timelines in a project-driven environment. Proven ability to work collaboratively as an influencer at all levels. High degree of initiative and self-motivation. Highest level of verbal and written communication skills.

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

The salary range for this role, in Loveland, CO, is between $115,900 - $198,600. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
