The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services, Research Center or BBN team:
Technology & Global Engineering is seeking a Technical Fellow, Aerothermal Systems. This role will be embedded within RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) and will be responsible for building and providing technical leadership for a portfolio of contract research and development programs. A successful candidate will have direct experience working with US Government agencies, including the US Department of Defense, and technical expertise in one or more of the following technology areas below.
Recognized in the industry for Technical Expertise in one or more of the following subjects:
Maritime (Undersea and Surface)
Space (VLEO to Cislunar)
Aerodynamics (including VTOL to High-Speed Systems)
Reacting Flows and Energetics
Novel propulsion and power generation cycles and systems (including Nuclear)
Low Observable/Counter-Low Observable Technologies
Power and Thermal Management for Electronic Warfare Systems
What You Will Do:
Drive funding pursuits: Lead Contract Research and Development (CRAD) pursuits – propose and win Department of Defense and/or Intelligence Community science & technology programs in areas of interest through technology leveraging, capability development, and strategic partnering
Provide indirect technical leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists in the successful execution of a portfolio of projects in this area with technical discipline and rigor in project execution
Interact with technical staff, Program Offices and all RTX businesses to develop and communicate a strategic vision in the areas of interest to these business units and demonstrate/transition new technologies
Provide timely, accurate and detailed reports and presentations to senior management and functional teams
Enhance RTX profile with external visibility to professional societies and develop collaborative research relationships with DoD Labs, FFRDCs, UARCs, and academia
Actively engage in technical and programmatic reviews to drive technical excellence
Originate and patent new ideas, define new projects, build them to self-sufficiency and guide them to transition
Provide technical guidance to RTRC and BU projects and support root cause investigations
Actively participate and support cross-BU Corporate technology roadmaps, BU technology strategies, Communities of Practice (COP), RTX technology networks, and RTRC discipline roadmaps and strategies
Publish in peer-reviewed publications and conference proceedings
Qualifications You Must Have:
An advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 10 years’ relevant experience or equivalent military education and experience
Technical expertise, including engineering, research, and/or project management in one or more of the technology areas listed above
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Experience with project management tools and managing large programs
Experience creating winning proposals for external funding and secure growth through strong customer relationships and engagement
Ability to partner with RTX Fellows and other Subject Matter
Qualifications We Prefer:
A PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 10 years’ relevant experience or equivalent military education and experience
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance preferred. TS/SCI preferred.
Prior experience leading research and development programs in the United States Department of Defense, Intelligence Agencies, or Department of Energy focused on nuclear technologies
Strong engagement and recognition across external communities
Requires the ability to communicate with and influence leaders at all organizational levels regarding matters of strategic importance to the product line or business
Ability to influence internal and external parties to accept concepts, practices and approaches
Industry engagement, including direct engagement with external professional committees and/or a strong record or publications
Recognized as a prominent expert within the field

The salary range for this role is 176,000 USD - 352,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
