The Role
The team lead role is a crucial position at Quest, with direct effect on our employees, our customers, and business performance. The position involves mentoring team members, managing work load, and maintaining a high yield with our individual contributors. Team leads actively work on engineering and related support activities such as: coordinate with Team Leads within all of Engineering Organization, set group priorities and assign individual tasks, provide mentoring and growth opportunities for group, perform yearly/quarterly performance reviews, responsible for maintaining adequate staffing levels and employee skillsets. Ultimately, the Team Lead is responsible for group profitability, billability and growth. Team Leads are the face of Quest to our individual contributors and the face of Quest to our existing customers, and as such are expected to demonstrate integrity and lead by example. They are the front line for business growth and for team member development.
Job Functions
The role will require you to leverage your engineering and leadership backgrounds to develop Design and Structural mechanical engineers. Among the detailed responsibilities will be the following:Build and maintain a motivated team that is prepared to execute on a series of diverse and technically challenging assignmentsPromote consistent organizational culture of teamwork, accountability, change championship, and customer focusDrive compliance to Quest standards and processesCommunicate the purpose of the organization to new and seasoned engineers, identify talent, and inspire leadership in high potential team membersCreate forecasts for workload, headcount, recruiting needs, financial predictions, software and hardware requirements, and infrastructure requirementsTrack and report metrics for the team; including customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, productivity improvement, and financial metricsDetermine headcount requirements for the team; interview, hire, and induct/on-board new employeesMake resource assignments balancing the customer needs, team member experience, and opportunities for learning and growthWork with Technical Leaders to define capability development requirements (including IDP) for the team and implement and track improvement initiativesMentor a team of mixed capability Quest engineers in the structures process by proactively engaging team members and developing processes, tools and best practicesPromote team growth by focusing team on high quality execution and effective project management Work with Strategic Account Management and Program Leader on strategies and proposals for expanding work scopeGeneral ResponsibilitiesLearn, understand, and apply our customer’s standard design and repair proceduresSupport quotation efforts with accurate estimates of design time required to complete tasksMake design change recommendations, document the work, and present the findings to our clientsAssist in identifying opportunities for improvement and take ownership for implementationWork Experience
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a technical BS degree (or equivalent experience) and 5+ years of aerospace experience in the design or structural analysis discipline with demonstrated leadership ability. Experience within the Gas Turbine Engine industry is preferred.
