Job Title: Tax Senior (Fully Remote)
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates in Central or Pacific Time Zones)
Firm: Our Client – A California-Based Boutique CPA Firm

Our client is a fully remote, full-service accounting firm led by a husband-and-wife team with Big 4 experience. With a strong commitment to client service, team collaboration, and real work/life balance, the firm supports a growing portfolio of over 40 small to medium-sized business clients and more than 100 individual tax clients annually.

Clients span a wide range of industries, including crypto, e-commerce, interior design, influencers, and professional services. In addition to tax services, the firm provides ongoing bookkeeping, HR advisory, and consulting support.

This Tax Senior role is being added to support the firm’s Tax Manager by taking on a portion of the tax and bookkeeping review work — enabling better workload balance and ongoing client success.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

Preference for candidates located in Central or Pacific time zones to support efficient collaboration with the offshore accounting team (based in the Philippines).

Strong preference for those with prior experience in national accounting firms, including Big 4 or large regional firms.

Role Breakdown:

60% Tax Work

40% Bookkeeping Review & Oversight

Regular collaboration with the offshore team is part of this role. Occasional availability during early evenings (e.g., 6 PM PT) may be required for overlap with the Philippines team (9 AM local time), though flexibility is supported.

Responsibilities:

Prepare federal and multi-state tax returns (1040, 1120-S, 1120-C, 1065, 1041)

Deliver quarterly tax estimate projections and year-end planning

Review and adjust QuickBooks Online financials for tax filings

Oversee client document collection and organize workpapers

Communicate proactively with clients

Review and approve bookkeeping deliverables from the offshore team

Post journal entries and assist with financial clean-up tasks

Mentor and support junior staff or remote team members

Research tax issues and develop repeatable internal guidance

Proactively update firm leadership on client progress and any concerns

Contribute to process and system improvements

Requirements:

Minimum 3+ years of tax and accounting experience

CPA preferred; 4-year degree in Accounting required

Experience with multi-state returns; foreign tax compliance is a plus

High proficiency with QuickBooks Online

Strong project and deadline management skills

Excellent verbal and written communication

Comfort working in a fully remote, collaborative setting

Ability to supervise and quality-check bookkeeping work
