ADDITIONAL INFO: The role is based in Witbank, Mpumalanga. The preferred candidate should be based in Witbank as this is an onsite role.

\n

PURPOSE OF POSITION

\n\nThe Tax Rebate Specialist is responsible for overseeing Mining diesel Rebate activities within the mining environment in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region and supporting the Data and Decision Science function in the accurate and timely production of mining diesel Rebate reporting.\n\n

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

\n

Mining diesel Rebates

\n\nVAT diesel refund\nTax VAT rebates\nOverseeing the preparation, submission, and tracking of MINING DIESEL rebate applications.\nEnsuring compliance with MINING DIESEL rebate regulations and requirements.\nAnalyzing and interpreting relevant legislation and updates related to MINING DIESEL rebates.\nGathering and organizing data necessary for MINING DIESEL rebate applications.\nAnalyzing financial and operational data to support rebate claims.\nVerifying data accuracy and completeness.\nLiaising with internal and client stakeholders (e.g., finance, tax, operations) to gather required information and support rebate claims.\nCommunicating with external parties such as tax advisors, auditors, and SARS officials regarding rebate matters.\nProviding guidance and support to colleagues on MINING DIESEL rebate procedures and requirements.\nEnsuring adherence to all tax laws and regulations applicable to MINING DIESEL rebates.\nResponding to MINING DIESEL audits and enquiries related to rebate claims.\nImplementing internal controls and procedures to mitigate risks associated with rebate processes.\nPrepare and process all geo zone activities in line with the fuel consumption and mining activity daily, monthly, quarterly and annually.\nReconcile the Mining DIESEL Rebate activities via Master data on the system.\n\n

Taxation

\n\nManaging and overseeing tax compliance activities related to MINING DIESEL rebates\nEnsuring timely and accurate preparation, filing, and submission of mining diesel rebates for various entities within the region\nIdentifying and evaluating tax rebate and incentive programs offered by SARS for eligible activities\nAdvising on strategies to maximize tax rebates and incentives available under applicable tax laws.\nMaintaining accurate and organized records of tax-related transactions, filings, and correspondence with tax authorities.\nEnsuring compliance with document retention policies and procedures.\nContinuously improving mining diesel rebates processes and controls to enhance efficiency and compliance.\nImplementing best practices and adopting new technologies to streamline tax-related activities.\n\n

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

\n\nAs per Board-approved DOA and as necessary for functions outside the DOA. As delegated by the Managing Director, when necessary.\n\n

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education/ achievements        

\n

Required

\n\n Bachelor’s degree in accounting/Finance or similar qualification     \n\n

Preferred

\n\nHigher Diploma in Taxation or\nBCom Honours degree in Taxation\n\n

Experience/ Knowledge           

\n\nMinimum 3 years’ experience with Tax             \n\n

Specific Skills 

\n\nAbility to communicate across levels with internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.\nHigh Degree of accuracy and attention to detail.\nAbility to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.\nProficiency in English and Afrikaans     \nMining or Transport industry background\n\n
