The Vehicle Conversions Supervisor will be responsible for the comprehensive integration and stringent control of engineering practices pertaining to all vehicle modifications and conversions. This critical role ensures that every converted vehicle adheres to stringent engineering standards, uncompromising quality requirements, and critical global regulatory compliance, including specifically ECE (Economic Commission for Europe) and ADR (Australian Design Rules) guidelines.
You will lead the technical lifecycle of conversion projects, from initial design analysis and engineering validation through to final sign-off and successful program launch, with a significant emphasis on managing and collaborating with third-party engineering partners and strict adherence to Ford's Global Product Development System (GPDS).
This position reports directly to the Ford Performance Special Vehicle Manager and is based in Australia at our International Market Group Product Development Centre in Broadmeadows, Melbourne. The role operates under a hybrid work arrangement, requiring four days in the office
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is a minimum requirement. A Master's degree in Business or Engineering is highly desirable but not essential for candidates with sufficient relevant experience. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in automotive engineering, with a significant focus on vehicle modifications, special vehicle operations, or conversions. Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within an engineering environment. Solid project engineering background with a track record of successful delivery roles, particularly in program launch phases. In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems, components, and integration principles. Expertise in creating and applying Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), boundary diagrams, and Design Verification Plans (DVPs). Understanding of global automotive regulatory frameworks, particularly ECE (Economic Commission for Europe) regulations and ADR (Australian Design Rules). Familiarity with establishing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and contract creation, Strong leadership skills, with a positive, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach to teamwork. Engineering Oversight & Control: Lead and control all engineering practices related to vehicle modifications and conversions, ensuring robust technical execution. Quality & Compliance Assurance: Guarantee that all converted vehicles consistently meet stringent internal engineering standards, Ford's quality requirements, and all relevant global regulatory compliance guidelines, including ECE and ADR. Project Leadership (Technical): Provide technical leadership for vehicle conversion projects, overseeing all phases from initial design analysis, feasibility studies, and engineering validation to final product sign-off. Third-Party Engineering Management: Strategically manage and oversee engagements with third-party engineering partners, ensuring their work aligns with Ford's specifications, quality standards, and project timelines. GPDS Adherence: Ensure strict adherence to Ford's Global Product Development System (GPDS) throughout all conversion projects, maintaining process integrity and documentation. Program Launch & Delivery: Drive the successful technical launch of vehicle conversion programs, ensuring all engineering aspects are validated and ready for production. Problem Solving & Resolution: Act as a primary technical resource for identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex engineering issues that arise during the conversion process. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, reports, and records for all conversion projects, ensuring traceability and compliance. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the vehicle conversion engineering workflow, contributing to best practices. Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and regulatory teams to ensure seamless integration and execution of conversion projects.
