The responsibility will be to lead and manage the Italian design office. This role focuses on creativity, excellence delivery products, and optimising processes, including resource allocation, financial control, and team time management. The input to the win strategy is vital for our Italy growth plan.
As Head of Design department, he/she will be ultimately responsible for both the creative output of the business, for the subsequent technical design and the strategy for design projects to win. She/he will lead, guide, mentor, manage and support the team of interior designers, technicians and visualisers.
Excellent management, communication and presentation skills are a pre-requisite combined with a keen understanding of the design process and commercial nature of a turnkey Design and Build business.
It is part of the role to be a proactive stakeholder of the wider Southern Cluster Design Team (Italy/Spain/Portugal), liaising with the peer leaders of the other countries to shape the strategy for the business growth and drive the business consistently.
Responsibilities:
To define the overall design strategy in Italy in line with the development growth strategy - “Focus to win”.Have full responsibility for the smooth running of the design team including workload planning and allocation; people leadership, management and development; ensuring quality control while driving creativity and innovation in everything we produce.To manage all design leads in Italy and coordinate responses to RFPs using existing resources in Italy and all other resources located in our JLL Design Desk.To collaborate closely with JLL Design and any other design entities in the groupBe the figurehead for design within the EMEA PDS/Tetris business and an active member of the management team in Italy. In addition, you will be expected to publicise and promote Tétris design capabilities internally throughout JLL, being able to fluently communicate Workplace Consultancy, Design and Environmental philosophies and abilities.In addition to management duties, you will also have sole responsibility to conceptualise creative interior designs for your own projects. This includes:Developing the client brief through client interview, data collection and building appraisalAppraising client working methods through workplace consultancy practices to make recommendations for workplace transformation.To collaborate with the Tetris Furniture SolutionsTo oversee multiple design projects simultaneously from RIBA stage 1 to 6Preparing pitch documents and presentations including briefing and managing designers, visualisers, graphic designers and design assistantsWinning work by presenting personal and team designs in a competitive pitch situationTo lead, mentor, develop a team of designersAttending site meetings where possibleTo allocate resources effectively and to manage budgetsEstablish standards and guidelinesTo set a relationship of trust with the build team and all other departmentsReport financial performance on monthly basisLiaising with technical designers, suppliers and subcontractors to manage and develop the design through each stage of the process from conception to completion. Attending high level meetings with clientsRequirements:
Degree in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, or ArchitectureMinimum 10-15 years of design experience with at least 5 years in a senior management roleExceptional client-facing and presentation abilitiesStrong negotiation and communication skillsExperience winning new business through competitive pitchesAbility to translate client needs into innovative design solutionsStrong creative vision and design sensibilityVision for design innovation and market differentiationUnderstanding of the commercial aspects of a Design and Build business modelProven track record leading design teams and managing multiple projects simultaneouslyFluent in Italian and English (written and verbal)Strong knowledge of Italian building codes, regulations, and industry standardsUnderstanding of sustainable design principles and certification processes (LEED, BREEAM, WELL)Experience with workplace strategy and space planning methodologiesDemonstrated ability to lead and develop a multidisciplinary design teamExperience in resource planning, workload allocation, and team managementStrong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and design economicsProven ability to develop and implement design standards and quality control processesExperience developing and implementing design strategies aligned with business objectivesAbility to collaborate across departments (Build teams, Business Development, Finance)Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesCommercial mindset with business development orientationCollaborative approach to cross-functional teamworkSelf-motivated with ability to manage multiple prioritiesPortfolio demonstrating successful workplace transformation projectsHistory of leading high-profile commercial interior design projectsExperience working in a global organization with multiple stakeholdersBackground in client-focused design consultancy or Design and Build firm#LI-TETR
