KBR is seeking a highly experienced Systems Safety Lead to oversee and execute safety engineering activities for advanced space systems and missions. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining system safety programs in accordance with NASA, DoD, and industry safety standards to ensure mission success and compliance with all applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead system safety program planning and execution for spacecraft, launch vehicles, ground systems, and mission operations.

Perform hazard analyses, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), and Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA).

Develop Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA/FMECA), and risk assessments.

Generate and maintain system safety documentation in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and NASA-STD-8719.13.

Interface with design engineering, operations, quality assurance, and mission assurance teams to identify and mitigate hazards throughout the system lifecycle.

Support safety reviews, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and design reviews (PDR, CDR, FRR).

Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including OSHA, NASA, and DoD requirements.

Mentor junior safety engineers and promote a safety-first culture across programs.

Coordinate with customers and regulatory authorities to address safety requirements and approvals.

Location: On-site

Travel Requirements: Minimal 20%

Working Hours: Standard

Basic Compensation:

$115,100 - $172,600 USD annually

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Required:

Security Clearance: Secret or higher level clearance.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Safety, or related technical discipline.

10+ years of system safety engineering experience in aerospace or defense programs, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.

Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, NASA safety standards, and spaceflight safety requirements.

Proficiency with hazard analysis methods, safety assessment tools, and risk management practices.

Excellent communication and technical writing skills for safety reports and briefings.

Desired:

Security Clearance: TS/SCI

Master’s degree in Engineering or Safety Management.

Experience supporting NASA, DoD, or commercial space missions.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or System Safety Certified Professional (SSCP).

Familiarity with software safety, human factors engineering, and reliability engineering.
