Job Summary:

KBR is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Systems Safety Engineer. Our ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to provide comprehensive systems safety engineering support for the MQ-9 Program Office. This position is located in Patuxent River, MD.

Role and Responsibilities:

SRA Development & Lifecycle Management:

Lead the creation, coordination, and maintenance of System Safety Risk Assessments (SSRAs) for the MQ-9 MUX MALE platform, including Increment I and II configurations 

Collaborate with SMEs across airworthiness, avionics, cyber, and payload teams to ensure risk identification, mitigation, and documentation are comprehensive and current 

Safety Engineering Integration:

Participate in weekly and monthly safety engineering reviews and drumbeat meetings to align with evolving program objectives and IOC milestones 

Support the integration of safety requirements into the system design, including DAAS (Detect and Avoid System), EWPS (Electronic Warfare Pod System), and Smart Sensor payloads 

Certification & Compliance:

Coordinate with NAVAIR’s Chief Airworthiness Engineer and PMA-266 to ensure compliance with MIL-STD-882E and other applicable safety standards 

Contribute to the development of certification artifacts and participate in SETR events, including DAAS and DRR (Due Regard Radar) reviews 

Technical Documentation & Reviews

Draft and edit SSRA documents, hazard analyses, and safety assessments in coordination with the CHENG and IPT leads 

Support the development of NATOPS and NATIP safety-related chapters and change recommendations 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with MBSE, cyber, and test teams to ensure traceability of safety requirements and alignment with system architecture and test plans 

Participate in engineering offsites and planning sessions to align safety tasks with 30/60/90-day objectives and IOC readiness 

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field and at least 5 years in system safety engineering, preferably with DoD UAS programs or NAVAIR platforms.

Proficiency in MIL-STD-882E, hazard tracking systems, and SSRA methodologies.

An active Secret clearance required.

Must be able to work part-time schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in systems Engineering preferred.

Familiarity with MBSE tools and safety modeling frameworks preferred.

TS/SCI clearance preferred. 

Scheduled Weekly Hours:

30 hours/week

Compensation:

$155,500 - $233,200

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s location, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, contract affordability, and in consideration of internal parity.
