Summary

 

The Senior Engineer, Cloud Platform Engineering is responsible for validating, implementing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure while integrating DevOps practices throughout the development lifecycle.  This role requires a deep understanding of cloud platforms, proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC), with emphasis on CI/CD pipelines and GitOps, and a commitment to fostering collaboration between development, engineering, and operations teams.  Will play a heavy role in doing deployments to AWS and MuleSoft, automating processes, improving deployment pipelines, and ensuring the overall efficiency, scalability, cost, and reliability of the cloud environment.

 

The Senior Engineer, Cloud Platform Engineering is also responsible for the overall day to day management of the WHR integration platforms that include AWS, MuleSoft, Cloudbees Jenkins and Databricks.  Given WHR’s focus on an “AWS Cloud First” approach, this position must have a strong technical proficiency and experience with AWS based technology stack.  This position is responsible for the planning, management, and engineering level support of our entire application integration platform and associated environments. This individual has responsibility for meeting and driving down MTTR issue resolution for troubleshooting analysis and support of all operationalized application and integration services.

 

The Senior Engineer, Cloud Platform Engineering is a technical specialist who supports multi-tier solutions, , guides, and mentors team members, drives advanced troubleshooting of production and pre-production systems, and develops standards and processes to improve the efficiency of the team.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Responsibilities

Overall production application integration and deployment platform support and troubleshooting analysis, leading the support team in resolution of production issues within SLAs. Drive crisis management and system recovery, both developing strategies to handle these events and working directly with IT teams to resolve them. Collaborate closely with Developers, Release Managers and Production Support teams to provide project and BAU support. Continuously provide technical mentoring and expertise to junior staff members and develop and define standards and best practices and recommendation of policies related to those standards. Communicate to the project team, support team and strategic partners effectively to achieve the project and solution goals. Manage all facets of application performance in the cloud, from availability to capacity planning, and analysis & upgrades. Foster a Cloud Cost aware culture and maintain an understanding that every engineering decision is a purchasing decision. Work with multiple Business stakeholders to prioritize tasks and communicate the release dates to all the stakeholders. Manage and participate in Service Management Processes such as incident, problem, change and IT asset management. Communicate engineering level designs and technical requirements with technical team members and manage implementation and provisioning of the overall technology stacks. Assure team uses best practices in design and implementation of the system. 24/7 on-call support is required on a rotation basis.

 

 

 

Technology Requirements

3+ years of experience in AWS platform and technologies for creating CloudFormation scripts and administering deployments. 3+ years of experience with AWS technologies and services like S3, Kinesis, Glue, API Gateway, Lambda, EC2, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, CloudTrail, EBS, Auto Scaling, Transfer Services, KMS, Secrets Manager, and IAM. Experience with containers and container orchestration, AWS EKS, ECS, ECR is required and Karpenter Autoscaling knowledge is a plus. 3+ years of experience with a CICD tool preferably Jenkins Opensource or Cloudbees Jenkins. 1+ years of experience in MuleSoft Integration Platform as a Service is a plus. 1+ years of experience in Databricks Platform as a Service is a plus. Knowledge in development and deployment languages such as Python, HCL (Terraform), CloudFormation, YAML, etc. Strong hands-on AWS cloud infrastructure deployment methodologies and use of common deployment patterns that include, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Continuous Testing, GitOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation. Experience integrating and working with Oracle RDS, GitHub, and other related technologies. Solid understanding of SSL concepts. Demonstrated understanding of network & system security, firewalls, security logs, audit logs, etc. Knowledge of AWS networking constructs such as VPC, TGW, Route Tables, and ELB is a plus.

 

Competencies Completion of AWS Certification(s) such as, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner AWS Certified Developer AWS Certified Solutions Architect AWS Active Directory and Amazon Web Services AWS Certified DevOps Engineer AWS Certified Advanced Networking Excellent technical writing skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills and team player attitude Ability to work flexible hours and participate in on-call after hours support. Ability to perform well in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities. Able to design and articulate logical engineering level cloud infrastructure data flow diagrams. A highly motivated team player with a blend of people and technical skills. Ability to understand complex concepts and communicate effectively to IT or non-IT personnel. Candidate should possess excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Familiarity with IT methodologies such as ITIL, SDLC and Agile development beneficial. Understanding policies and procedures and work within them and champion them to others. Ability to work well independently as well as with others.   Minimum Requirements and Qualifications MS/BS in Computer Science/Information Systems or related field and/or equivalent experience. 5+ years of related technical work experience in the implementation of complex, large scale, enterprise-wide applications, and platforms including analysis, administration, implementation, and support. 3+ years of experience working in AWS 3+ years of experience with CloudFormation or Terraform scripting 3+ years of experience working with a CICD tool 1+ years of experience with AWS Kubernetes Experience in application integration, or DevOps, or Cloud Platform Engineering. Experience working on large scale, enterprise-wide projects.
