Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Systems Engineer in Canberra to work on Space projects.
What You’ll Do
This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:
Prepare and review project documentation, including project management office plans and Gate 2 deliverables, to support governance and execution. Conduct planning, scheduling, estimating, and risk assessments to ensure project milestones and risks are effectively managed. Participate in tender evaluations and develop procurement documentation, including evaluation reports and negotiation directives. Develop technical documentation and interface definitions for integration with Defence strategic, deployed, and external networks. Support safety, security, and logistics planning to position the project for future certification, accreditation, and sustainment across the capability lifecycle.
What You’ll Bring [Key skills and qualifications]
Project Management personnel must have experience with CASG pre-Gate 1/Gate 2 projects, Defence Capability Life Cycle documentation, ASDEFCON tendering, and hold relevant qualifications including AIPM registration. Systems/SATCOM Engineers should demonstrate expertise in communications and systems engineering, Defence systems engineering processes, and ideally have experience with SATCOM systems and spacecraft procurement. Integrated Logistics Support Managers must possess formal logistics qualifications, Defence acquisition experience, and the ability to manage contractor ILS programs and technical regulation compliance. RFT Pricing Specialists are expected to understand CASG cost modelling and estimation tools, and contribute effectively to tender evaluation and offer definition activities. Commercial Support personnel should be skilled in Defence contracting, policy research, and drafting, with strong attention to detail and the ability to provide well-reasoned commercial recommendations.
Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
