Systems Engineer
**It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!** **Job Description Summary:** As a Systems Engineer at Rocket Software, you are part of a global, fast-paced IT organization with a primary mission to provide world-class service to software development labs and internal departments ensuring our employees can perform at the highest level. We are seeking a detail-oriented Unix/Linux Systems Engineer to support our server operation lifecycle. You will have a strong background in supporting and maintaining Unix/Linux server environments. You will identify, analyze, and resolve system issues and report on deficiencies in configuration, process, and documentation as well as develop and recommend corrective actions **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:** + Administer, monitor, and troubleshooting Unix/Linux based systems (e.g., HP, AIX, RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE etc.) + Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and patch management. + Maintain system security, user access controls, and data protection strategies. + Support backup and disaster recovery solutions and ensure data integrity. + Monitor system performance and provide capacity planning recommendations. + Troubleshoot complex technical issues and coordinate with cross-functional teams when necessary. + Create and maintain up-to-date documentation for infrastructure systems and procedures. + Participate in on-call support rotations and handle incident escalation. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements, develop, implement, and maintain scalable and secure solutions that meet the business needs. + Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. + Perform day-to-day system administration and tasks for assigned systems. + Provide timely problem resolution, incident management, and root cause analysis. + Perform duties following all company standards regarding engagement, change management, and escalations. + Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required. + Develop automations for monitoring, performance optimization, availability, and security of Rocket systems. **Required Qualifications:** + 3+ years of systems administration and operations experience supporting various Unix/Linux server operating systems. + Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in IT operations, with a strong focus on Linux systems and VMware/Nutanix based systems + Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent. + Good written and verbal communication skills; desire and ability to document configurations in support of a larger team. + Good interpersonal skills with a strong focus on listening and questioning to derive the best solutions. + Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance. + Ability to collaborate with business partners across the organization and within IT + Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities + Ability to present ideas and concepts in a team environment that values data-driven decisions. + Understanding other IT system technologies such as Linux, Cloud, Virtualization. + Understanding of ITIL processes. **Core Capabilities** + Customer Service Skills + Documentation and Communications + Problem solving + Technically curious + Innovation **Travel Requirements:** <10% **Information Security:** Information security is everyone’s responsibility.
