About the Project/Program
LAND 4140 BMS (previously LAND 200-3) has been established within the Defence Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) to develop and deliver one of Army’s highest priority projects. The project will, in two tranches of work, build and expand upon on in-service capabilities delivered under previous project phases to enhance command and control, situational awareness and targeting for the Joint Land Force. The system will enable the Joint Land Force to make faster, safer and better-informed decisions.
What You’ll Do
Perform critical and complex engineering activities and providing advice in the field of software systems engineering for the project. Perform the systems/software engineer role in a complex and diverse technological environment (i.e. systems of systems, disparate networking environments, radio systems and electro-mechanical environments). Develop engineering plans and designs that are produced with, and consumed by, other engineering specialists. Work with systems architects and engineering management in the design and specification of software-related engineering artefacts. Support the Engineering Manager in development of engineering work packages that meet the needs of the scope of work and may include: Contribution to artefacts as part of the capability definition documentation and management plans, processes and procedures. Contribution to the system architecture and systems integration specifications, plans, procedures, reports and other technical material. Monitor and ensure that safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into software engineering activities. Identify and resolve system/software engineering related technical issues and constraints and advise the engineering and project management functions on appropriate courses of action.The position reports to the Engineering Manager and may be required to provide subject matter support to the BMS (Critical C2) and BMS (Tactical) Project Managers, and the Project Director.

The Systems/Software Engineer requires a highly organised and motivated individual who works effectively in a complex environment, can think critically, has excellent problem-solving skills and can manage competing priorities. The role is intended for a Systems Engineer with a Software background or a Software Engineer with a good foundation in Systems Engineering.
This role requires demonstrated experience in:
Systems/Software Engineering with skills in planning, specification & design in multiple phases of a program, within CASG or similar acquisition environment. DevSecOps and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), ideally within the MS Azure environment Analysis, design, review, and delivering high quality engineering documentation to support Government approvals and materiel delivery. Initiative, creativity and responsibility to perform a range and variety of complex technical work activities with limited guidance. Managing technical and integration risks. Applying testing and evaluation techniques across the system development life cycle. Ability to analyse, design, plan, execute, and evaluate work to time, cost and quality targets while assessing and evaluating risk.Essential Experience and / or Qualifications:
Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics/computers/communications/networking or similar) or an equivalent qualification that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a professional engineer. Comprehensive understanding in engineering of complex Defence systems.
