What you'll do Space agencies around the world are investing heavily into lunar exploration with the aim of establishing the Moon as a platform for mankind to become a multi-planetary species. Lunar exploration missions are furthering key scientific objectives around surviving and prospering in space as well as providing information on the origins of life as a whole. The lunar roadmap foresees in-situ resource utilisation on the Moon to establish a permanent human presence during the 2030s, as well as using the Moon as a “refuelling station” for further space exploration to Mars and beyond. As part of the investment into lunar exploration, European Space Agency (ESA) created the Moonlight programme – a private-public partnership. Moonlight will develop new communications and navigation capabilities and services that will be provided to missions on and around the Moon through the launch of dedicated infrastructure. Viasat is entering the programme as the design authority for the communications service, responsible to design and procurement of the space segment, ground segment and user infrastructure to provide communications services by the end of the decade. We are looking for a Systems Engineer to work across the program Segment teams, our customer needs, and Systems team. You will work on identifying how to apply complex and innovative solutions to real world problems for the development of our unique product range. You will play a key role by supporting systems engineering and all segment leads on managing the programme requirements from service to subsystem level. This involves collaborating closely with system and segment teams to ensure technical solutions being developed comply with the requirements, developing verification and validation strategies, and ensuring coherency across technical subject areas. The day-to-day One key part of the role is requirements engineering, where you will take on the challenge to understand and help define the technical content of the solution across all design disciplines. Your technical involvement will cover the whole development lifecycle from initial concept through development and verification. Moreover, you will partner closely with the Lead Systems Engineer, Segment leads and subject matter experts, as well as the Project Manager for delivery of the project to time, cost, quality and performance requirements. Some specific needs are: Requirements management across the programme utilising JAMA, ensuring traceability and flow down from service to subsystem level Liaising with system and segment level SMEs to ensure requirements are updated in line with the evolution of the programme Ensuring change management systems are adhered to when updates are made with appropriate flow down to segment level leads for impact analysis Ensuring requirements are linked to appropriate verification and validation activities by leasing with the Systems Engineering team Day to day management of the JAMA ecosystem, working closely with all SMEs and Systems Leads to ensure that the requirements are driving the design and evolve in line with the needs of the program Work closely with the System Engineering Lead to tailor systems engineering methodologies and implement best practice What you'll need - A degree-level qualification in a relevant field with knowledge of systems engineering methodologies with industry experience doing systems engineering. - Experience and knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, system design process and product validation and verification - Good understanding and appreciation of all design disciplines, likely to have expertise in at least one. - Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation. - Experience or knowledge of using JAMA or other industry standard requirements management tools.
