Job Summary
Performs electrical engineering assignments related to transmission and/or communication system equipment and issues. Adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes. Reviews relay setting sheets and identifies discrepancies, performs root cause analysis of transmission and/or communication equipment failures, reviews relaying and control schemes, and monitors transmission and/or communication system component condition for potential problems. Reviews system performance for problems by using data generated from routine inspections or tests.
Independently evaluates, selects, and applies electrical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to all aspects of the transmission and/or communication system. Develops potential solutions to problems identified through various data analyses. Develops modernization projects and other capital improvement projects. Performs power quality analysis and recommends solutions to problems identified.
Responsible for all phases of complex projects related to the transmission system. Serves as the organization representative at Power Supply Meetings and Project Peer Review Meetings. Performs the initial review of specification diagrams before the project is assigned.
Develops new test procedures as needed. Assists in the development and execution of training plans for other engineers, electricians and technicians.
When assigned to a Nuclear Plant, must be able to obtain and maintain an unescorted plant access certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain S-3 and S-4 medical ratings with no shift work or overtime restrictions. Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and the maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak demand periods. Must receive and pass required training to obtain and maintain Independent Qualified reviews and 10CFR50.59 review status.
Supervision Received
The incumbent independently performs assignments with instructions limited to general results expected.
Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)
+ Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles and the ability to apply them to complex tasks.
+ Knowledge of industry standards and codes such as applicable IEEE standards and NESC and demonstrated ability to apply them to complex tasks.
+ Skill in using standard Microsoft office programs.
+ Ability to read and understand engineering drawings related to the transmission system.
+ Ability to convey technical information effectively both written and orally.
+ Demonstrate the ability to use advanced problem solving and analysis techniques.
+ Skill in using analysis programs such as CAPE, EMTP and Super-Harm.
Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements
Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Certification as a Professional Engineer (desirable).
Membership in professional engineering societies such as IEEE is desirable.
Must have demonstrated proficiency in electrical engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience.
