System Development Engineer I - AWS, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) Networking

The AWS Networking organization is looking for a System Development Engineer to join our Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) Networking team. As a System Development Engineer on our team, you will build systems that manage mission-critical networks with high availability and low operational overhead. You will work closely with internal software, systems, and network engineering teams to develop new products such as automated switch provisioning, automated event detection, and continuous workflow testing that improve the security and availability of our networks.
ADC Networking owns the entire lifecycle - design, build, deployment, scaling, sustaining engineering, and operations - of our networks connecting between and within the data centers for a dedicated customer region, interconnections to customer networks, and the solutions that enable remote access to these regions from secure operations facilities. You will develop, evolve, and optimize these systems, to help protect our customers and provide an improved experience.
We are looking for smart, enthusiastic, and creative engineers with a solid background in solving hard problems that span the software development, systems engineering, and network engineering disciplines. You will join a team of highly motivated and talented systems and software developers charged with automating and inventing new ways of operating the Amazon AWS network. Experience with computer networking concepts is preferred.
This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI with a polygraph.
Key job responsibilities
You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and quality of services you deliver. Your experience working in a systems development or in an enterprise environment will help us implement automated solutions across a variety of applications and systems.
You will:
- Be part of the team that shapes the automation future in networking and develop DevOps and automation tasks for test infrastructure.
- Use and develop tools and process that collect & rationalize data from different sources and frameworks that reduce workloads.
- Use data to measure success and take responsibility for the quality of your service and, regardless of their source; Strive to prevent faults from impacting your customers.
- Develop best in class software systems for automating Amazon's network.
- Work closely with our Network Engineering teams to ensure fast and smooth software roll-outs and design and recommend optimization for service delivery and fleets.
- Identify and troubleshoot recurring platform issues with effective escalation to senior-level engineers.
- Learn, design, and build cloud-computing systems for a diverse set of customers and contribute to documentation of process and procedures.
- Be a leader on an agile team, independently drive challenging projects and milestones to completion.
A day in the life
You will be an independent builder on a team that shapes the automation future in networking. You will develop new key services to improve networking security and availability posture in ADC Regions. You will identify and drive tooling, service, and process improvements to improve the customer experience for operating and maintaining the AWS network.
You will collaborate with Senior Engineers with deep knowledge in network architecture. You will have the opportunity expand your horizons and expand your influence as a technical leader. With an open-minded team such as ours, you will have an eager-to-learn unit of peers with whom you get to grow mutually.
