System Design Engineer/SR (Hybrid)

Position Description

Kinder Morgan is seeking a System Design Engineer to support the design, expansion, and operation of refined products pipeline systems, terminals, and associated facilities.  This role involves hydraulic modeling, system analysis, and collaboration across multiple teams to ensure efficient and effective pipeline operations.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain steady-state, transient, and real-time hydraulic models using DNV Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS).Support expansion initiatives for product pipeline systems.Assist in the ongoing operations and optimization of pipeline systems and terminals.Prepare comprehensive system design reports for refined products pipelines, pump stations, terminals, truck racks, and related infrastructure.Collaborate with commercial, operations, scheduling, and project management teams to deliver preliminary designs aligned with project goals.Analyze pipeline and terminal operations using hydraulic modeling tools to evaluate system performance and troubleshoot operational issues.Produce clear and concise reports outlining design alternatives and recommendations.Foster effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical preferred).5–10 years of experience in modeling and designing refined liquids products pipelines and terminal systems.Proficiency in DNV Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS) for liquids pipeline modeling.Strong understanding of pipeline and terminal equipment including pumps, truck racks, tanks, and metering systems.Experience in equipment specification, selection, installation, and operation.Experience with SCADA systems and real-time pipeline monitoring.Familiarity with regulatory requirements for refined products pipelines (e.g., PHMSA, DOT).Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn new software tools.
