System Configuration Engineering Specialist - Charging

Caterpillar’s Resource Industries Electrification Solutions (RIES) team is developing key technologies to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world! Our products will help shape the future of electrified mine sites around the world. As a Charging Configuration Engineer, you can be a part of that journey with us by providing world-class product development of innovative solutions such as Stationary and Dynamic Energy Transfer (SET and DET) charging solutions. These charging solutions are Caterpillar-developed systems that transfer energy to battery-electric and diesel-electric large mining trucks while they are working around a mine site. These systems improve operational efficiency and machine uptime. The innovative systems provide the industry with options to support both near-term and long-term sustainability strategies. You will have a pivotal role working with Caterpillar team members in a critical and fast-paced product development function to deliver solutions that make our customers successful with sustainable site solutions. The Charging Configuration Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of integrated stationary and dynamic charging systems required at a mine site level to support battery electric and diesel electric haul trucks. This will include working closely with other Caterpillar teams to develop the optimal L7 charging nodes. These charging systems will provide superior customer value in terms of features, performance, durability, and quality, with considerations of cost, manufacturing, velocity, and serviceability. **What You Will Do:** + Configure and integrate stationary charging systems for battery electric haul trucks at mine sites to optimize the total installation costs and impact on Cost per Ton (CPT). + Identify and drive the development of software and hardware components to meet specific site requirements. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality of charging systems, including localized preferences and power distribution. + Drive system-level testing and validation planning to ensure performance, reliability, and safety standards are met. + Monitor and optimize system performance, implementing improvements as needed. + Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals. + Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in EV charging technology. + Provide technical support and training to internal teams and customers. **Education requirement:** Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or a related field. **What skills you will have:** **Product Design:** Ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design. • Evaluates the outcome of the design against the functionality. • Monitors the processes and procedures of a complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met. • Evaluates feedback from customers and consults on functional weaknesses. • Controls design and development costs of a proposed product through effective resource coordination. **Information Capture:** Knowledge of the methods, channels and processes to obtain needed information; ability to identify, capture and document relevant business information in an auditable, organized, understandable and easily retrievable manner. • Provides guidance in documenting pertinent information. **Decision Making and Critical Thinking:** Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. • Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical frameworks. • Assesses and validates decision options and points and predicts their potential impact. • Uses effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus. • Ensures that assumptions and received wisdom are objectively analyzed in decisions. **Effective Communications:** Communicates well downward, upward, and outward. • Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience. • Employs appropriate methods of persuasion when soliciting agreement. • Maintains focus on the topic at hand. **Problem Solving:** Ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. • Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact problems. • Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort. • Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts. • Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate. • Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies. **Conceptual Thinking:** Ability to identify the critical ideas and interdependencies among system elements that impact performance. Links information patterns and trends to hypotheses. • Synthesizes key issues, patterns and trends and summarizes the implications. • Proposes alternative solutions when presented with problems or opportunities. • Simplifies complex ideas into easily understood concepts. **Top Candidates will also have:** + Product design experience, especially with NPI and TRL. + Knowledge of power distribution, high power electronics, and controls. + Familiarity with global regulatory standards and safety requirements for EV charging systems. + Proven experience in the development and integration of systems, preferably in the heavy equipment or EV charging industry. + Experience with system-level testing and validation. + Passion for sustainable technology and electric mobility. + Proficiency in Creo. **Additional Information:** This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Mossville, IL office. This position may require up to 25 % travel. Relocation is available. Sponsorship is not available. **Summary Pay Range:** $126,000.00 - $189,000.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
