We are looking for a System Architect – ETCS DMI

You’ll make a difference by:

We are seeking a highly experienced System Architect to lead the system-level design and specification of the Driver Machine Interface (DMI) for the European Train Control System (ETCS). This role involves translating customer and market requirements into system specifications, defining architecture and interfaces, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver safety-critical solutions in compliance with railway standards.Key Responsibilities:System Requirements & ArchitectureValidate customer, market, and contract requirements; assess feasibility and translate them into System Requirements Specifications (SRS).Develop and maintain the System Architecture Specification (SAS) based on functional and non-functional goals.Define system elements and their responsibilities to meet performance, safety, and usability targets.Specify and manage interfaces between system elements, ensuring clarity and traceability.Break down system-level requirements into domain-specific requirements for software, hardware, and testing teams.Drive exploration of architectural alternatives and lead decision-making processes.Ensure compliance with ETCS standards (Subset-034) and SIL2 safety standards.Collaboration & Stakeholder ManagementInterface with internal and external stakeholders including requirement engineers, developers, testers, and suppliers.Facilitate alignment and communication across teams to ensure architectural consistency and project success.Provide inputs to management on resource planning, effort estimation, and product roadmaps.Technical LeadershipUtilize technical expertise and analytical skills to address critical issues confidently, even under uncertainty.Ensure architectural decisions support scalability, maintainability, and safety compliance.Support safety case development and certification processes.Mandatory Skills:Hands-on experience in writing System Requirement Specifications.Proven experience in System Architecture Design for embedded systems.Strong understanding of system integration, communication protocols (e.g., MVB, TCP/IP), and interface specification.Experience in HMI (Human-Machine Interface) product development in safety-critical domains (railways, aerospace, industrial automation).Good understanding of hardware-software co-design and system-level constraints.Strong software development background with ability to bridge system and software architecture.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.Prior exposure to railway domain, especially ETCS, CBTC, or PTC systems.Hands-on experience with RTOS or Linux-based embedded systemsGood to Have:Familiarity with formal methods, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and safety lifecycle documentation.Qualification & Skill Set:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a comparable field.12+ years of total experience, with at least 4 years in a System Architect role.Proficiency in UML diagrams and system modeling.Experience with tools such as JIRA, DOORS, Polarion, Enterprise Architect, Microsoft Visio.
