ABOUT THE ROLE
The SVP, Director of Government Contracting position is a leadership role within the Commercial Banking team, reporting directly to the Regional President. This role is responsible for leading business development efforts within the government contracting sector, driving strategic lending initiatives, and managing key client relationships in the assigned market. The primary objective is to meet or exceed annual commercial lending goals by building and maintaining a robust loan pipeline, securing high-quality government contract-related commercial loans, and ensuring prudent credit practices.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Business Development & Loan Growth
Proactively source, develop, and close high-quality commercial loans with a focus on government contractors and related industries. Lead the market’s efforts to meet or exceed annual commercial lending and revenue targets. Maintain a strong and consistent loan pipeline through networking, referral generation, and targeted marketing strategies.Client Relationship Management
Serve as the key relationship manager for government contractor clients, delivering tailored financial solutions to meet their unique needs. Partner with internal teams (e.g., credit, treasury, operations) to ensure high levels of client satisfaction and service delivery.Strategic Leadership
Represent the bank in the local market, cultivating relationships with industry professionals, government agencies, and community stakeholders. Collaborate with the Regional President and other Commercial team leaders to align local lending strategies with broader regional and institutional objectives.Credit Oversight & Risk Management
Oversee the structuring, underwriting, and negotiation of commercial loans in accordance with the bank’s credit policies and risk appetite. Maintain portfolio quality through proactive monitoring of borrower performance and timely identification of potential credit issues. Work closely with credit and underwriting teams to prepare and present credit memos for approval.Team Collaboration & Development
Provide mentorship and leadership to junior lenders and support staff within the commercial lending group. Promote a culture of performance, compliance, and collaboration across teams.EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; MBA or relevant graduate degree preferred. Minimum of 10+ years of experience in commercial banking or lending, with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior relationship management role. Proven track record in originating and closing commercial loans, with a strong emphasis on government contract lending. Deep knowledge of government contracting processes, procurement cycles, and industry dynamics. Proven ability to develop and manage relationships with CEOs, CFOs, and clients. Strong credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio management skills. Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills. Ability to represent the institution externally with professionalism and integrity.BENEFITS AT MVB
