We are currently seeking a SVP, Deputy General Counsel, Commercial Contracting to join our team in Plano, Texas (US-TX), United States (US).
Job Summary: The Deputy General Counsel, Commercial Contracting will lead the contracts function within the legal department of NTT DATA’s North America region, ensuring the preparation and negotiation of contracts adhere to company policies and legal requirements. This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in managing high-value, multi-tower, complex contracts, and with a proven track record in leading in-house legal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership: Direct and develop the North America contracts team, providing strategic direction and oversight, optimizing the team to provide effective and efficient contractual support to the business.
• Contract Management: Oversee the preparation and negotiation of all contracts in the North America region, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal standards.
• Policy Development: Develop and implement policies and processes to govern contract administration and provide guidance on contract terms.
• Strategic Negotiation: Serve as escalation point for the negotiation of complex, high-value contracts, proven ability to partner with sales and executive teams to negotiate optimal terms.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Client Growth Office, other entities’ legal teams, and other departments to ensure contract terms align with business objectives and legal requirements.
• Compliance and Risk Management: Partner with non-legal compliance and business teams to ensure regulatory compliance where required. Identify and mitigate risks associated with contracts, ensuring the company's interests are protected.
• Training and Development: Mentor and develop the contracts legal staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
• Managing Budget: Responsible for managing budget and costs associated with the contracts function, including outside legal counsel spend.
Basic Qualifications:
• Education/Accreditation: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school (or country equivalent). Admission to the state bar in the jurisdiction of employment (or country equivalent).
• Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience leading teams within an in-house legal department in the IT industry, with a focus on managing multi-million dollar deals.
The ideal candidate will have the following skill sets and experience:
• Extensive knowledge of contract law, regulatory law as related to our regulated offerings, and the contract life cycle for IT services.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Combination of in-house and firm experience preferred.
Location: This is a remote position based in the United States, but candidates from other jurisdictions may be considered, with compensation commensurate with local standards.
