Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job DescriptionThe SVP, Entertainment & Sports Communications will be responsible for setting an innovative communications strategy, maximizing opportunities to showcase the SpinCo portfolio inclusive of our cable TV networks and properties (USA Sports, USA Entertainment, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, Rotten Tomatoes, Fandango, Fandago at Home, Sports Next, Golf Channel, GolfNow, GolfPass, and Sports Engine). The executive is passionate about the entertainment and sports landscape with deep experience around building strong narratives to strengthen business position inclusive of launching new products, new shows and live events. This role will also provide strategic counsel to leadership and lead a team responsible for media relations, industry events, leadership speaking opportunities, and crisis communication.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with executive leadership to ensure alignment and support for Comms InitiativesDevelop and implement communication strategies that align with company goalsEnhance and protect the company's brand reputationBuild and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and influencersManage crisis communication and media inquiries effectivelyPlan and execute high-profile events, including premieres, press conferences, and promotional activitiesCoordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful event outcomesMonitor event budgets and timelines to ensure efficiencyDevelop comprehensive communication plans to promote key initiatives and projectsAnalyze and report on the effectiveness of communication strategiesPartner with marketing, digital, and creative teams to align communication effortsEnsure consistent messaging across all platforms and channelsQualificationsBasic Requirements:
Minimum 15 years of Communications experience including experience working within a matrixed corporate environmentExperience in product communications and managing product announcements, launches and campaignsExperience in entertainment communications and managing entertainment announcements, launches and campaignsDeep relationships with entertainment, sports, and digital mediaDemonstrated ability to develop, motivate, and manage a team of high caliber communications professionals across locationsProven successful track record of developing, shaping, and advancing narratives across all channels, including but not limited to digital, press, events, and industry relations that deliver tangible business resultsA proven track record of excellence in strategic communications, crisis management, media relations and working with C-Suite level executivesAbility to collaborate across teams and varying priorities to maintain alignment on vision, strategy, and performance goals; demonstrated capability in conflict resolution with tact and diplomacyDemonstrate a propensity for innovative thinking and entrepreneurial attitude while being respectful of business dynamicsTrack record of operating successfully within a highly matrixed work environment with multiple stakeholdersMedia-savvy and fluent in the dynamics of traditional and digital platformsLead and mentor a team of publicists and communication professionals; foster a collaborative and innovative work environmentLos Angeles work location will also be considered.Additional Requirements:
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week. This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
