St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time Professor and Chair role, in the Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology (ANPH) department in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 9/30/2025.
Job Description
Objective:
SGU-SVM is looking for a suitable candidate who is a strong team player and interested in developing productive research, teaching, and service programs that can integrate with activities of other departments across SGU campus. The successful applicant shall act as the Chair of the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology (ANPH), and, thus, shall provide and display academic and administrative leadership in the department.
They shall also contribute to scholarly activities in the department, including research and teaching of disciplines contained within ANPH in the DVM program.
Essential Functions:
+ Assume responsibility and operational management for academic, non-academic and administrative matters concerning to the ANPH Department.
+ In close collaboration with the Dean’s Office and other relevant bodies, be responsible for the overall development of academic activities related to the ANPH Department, within the overarching policies and regulations of the University.
+ Manage the Department’s budget, and evaluations of faculty and staff.
+ Oversee the recruitment, retention, and promotion of appropriate faculty and visiting professors in the ANPH Department.
+ Determine faculty and staff needs for proper execution of the mandate of the ANPH Department, for their continuous development.
+ Work closely with the SVM Associate Deans of Academic Programs, Fourth Year Clinical Studies, and Students on all academic and non-academic student affairs.
+ Cooperate with other Chairs of the School in maintenance of the overall development of the SGU-SVM.
+ Interpret and uphold existing University policies and directives.
+ Will report to the Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, directly on all matters relating to the day-to-day administration/governance of the Department.
+ Carry out other responsibilities assigned by the Dean as necessary.
Instructional Activities:
+ Assist in teaching body system modules during the first curriculum spiral, integrating disciplines across ANPH for DVM students.
+ Have oversight responsibility for the development and administration of the post-graduate degree program within the ANPH Department.
Research and Scholarly Activities:
+ Encourage, facilitate, and oversee faculty and graduate students relevant and research activities within the ANPH Department, and/or in association with other Schools.
+ Provide and/or facilitate mentorship of faculty and graduate students in the ANPH Department, especially guiding junior faculty toward productive careers in teaching and research, as well as in MSc and PhD programs.
Service:
Serve as member of the Dean’s Council of the School of Veterinary Medicine
Participate in the following University activities:
+ Departmental Reviews (when required)
+ Faculty Meetings (when required)
+ Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)
+ Being involved in IACUC committee or related activities
+ Outreach efforts in the local community
General:
+ Establish appropriate opportunities for interaction with students that are consistent with the SVM Faculty Handbook.
+ Adhere to and promote the policies and procedures governing St. George’s University.
Qualifications:
+ A PhD degree is required, a DVM or equivalent
+ Veterinary degree is desirable. It is expected that the successful candidate will have an extensive background in teaching Veterinary Biomedical Sciences.
+ Experience in managing academic, research and technical support staff.
+ Evidence of a successful research career including the ability to obtain national/international grant funding.
+ Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication and negotiation skills.

+ This is a full time position in the Caribbean island of Grenada.
