SVM - Board Review Strategist (Instructor/Demonstrator)
SVM - Board Review Strategist (Instructor/Demonstrator) St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time Board Review Strategist role at the Instructor/Demonstrator level, in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 7/2/2025. Job Description Objective The SVM Board Review Strategist is an instructor or demonstrator level position (depending on academic qualifications) primarily responsible to support initiatives for the promotion of student success on the NAVLE Board Exam. Approximately one quarter of the position is also connected to the provision of learning strategies, especially those related to examination preparation, including individual student appointments, Formative Friday question sessions, workshop creation, and the development of learning/testing strategy coursework. The Strategist collaborates with SVM and DES Learning Strategist (LS) faculty on a number of levels related to enhancing SVM student academic/board performance and wellbeing. They are also responsible for monitoring and reporting on educational outcomes connected to the initial NAVLE Boards Preparation Program. Essential Functions NAVLE Board Preparation Program (75%): + Assist the Associate Dean of Student Success and the Director of Student Achievement with the design, development and delivery of the SVM Boards Preparation Program, which includes the following: Term 6 Boards Preparatory Course, (CLIN541), NAVLE preparation needs of the T7 cohort, Board Success Seminar for T8 and T9 cohorts. + Collaborate with the SVM Associate Dean for Student Success to identify the variables that are central to predicting which Term 7 students likely have greater NAVLE prep needs. + Establish a full schedule of NAVLE small group MCQ sessions designed to accommodate all students identified as having NAVLE preparation needs. + Help to recruit and train SVM Faculty/Alumni/Facilitators who participate in NAVLE preparation. + Provide accessible NAVLE/Learning Strategy appointment times to support 4th year veterinary students. + Develop and deliver board preparation resources and workshops connected to the T5 and T6 NAVLE preparation courses/seminars. + Personally facilitate a number of weekly MCQ Review Groups. + Collect relevant data on student performance and participation, perform student surveys, collate various data and summarize results, and monitor student engagement in the SVM Boards Preparation Programs Learning Strategies (25%): + As directed by the Coordinator of the SVM Learning Strategy program, meet individually with students for learning strategy support. + Collaborate with SVM/LS faculty in the design and delivery of Learning Strategy/Self-Regulated learning principles within the Professional Skills Curriculum. + Collaborate and liaise with the Associate Dean of Student Success, the SVM Academic Advising Team and the SVM DOS Dean's office. Essential Knowledge Skills and Abilities + This position requires flexible working hours and an irregular schedule (including evenings and weekends and over the summer months), to accommodate the schedules of students in their 4th clinical year who are preparing for the NAVLE. + Familiarity with the sciences. + Strong situational awareness, empathy, dynamism, strategic thinking, flexibility, and creativity. + Strong commitment to student development. + Familiarity with standardized test preparation and programs. + Self-regulated with ability to take initiative, manage multiple ongoing tasks and projects, and reflectively adjust. + Strong work ethic, able to work collaboratively with a team and work independently. + Cognizant of the moderate to high mental effort required, and coping skills for managing students in distress. + Work with faculty, staff, and students in a congenial and professional manner and maintain confidentiality. + Cognizant of his/her/their role in projecting a positive image of SGU. + Committed to ongoing professional development. Desirable Knowledge Skills and Abilities + Experience with veterinary medical education and/or veterinary medicine Qualifications Minimum Qualifications + Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or related field, for Demonstrator and Instructor ranks, respectively. + Background/familiarity with the sciences and adult learning theory and practice. + Two or more years’ experience conducting Supplemental Learning (SL) sessions for students in the sciences. + Experience in providing one-on-one academic support to students using both online and in-person settings. + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail + Excellent verbal and written communication skills Special Instructions to Applicants: + This is a full time position in the Caribbean island of Grenada. + To ensure full consideration, complete application materials including CV, Cover Letter and names and email address of three references must be submitted. + Salary is competitive and paid in US dollars. + Review of applicants will be ongoing until the position is filled. + For further information about the position or the application process, please contact facultyrecruitment@sgu.edu.
