Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

About the role

We’re looking for a sustainability reporting advisor to join our corporate reporting and ESG disclosure team, within communications, working to monitor, assess and ultimately deliver quality corporate reporting.

The team is responsible for bp’s corporate reports (including interactions with the auditor and assurance provider), preparing for new ESG reporting requirements, managing interactions with ESG risk ratings providers and supporting the bp AGM. You’ll help to prepare content that goes into our disclosures – including the Annual Report, Sustainability Report, other annual publications and on the bp.com website.

The role holder will report to the Sustainability Reporting Manager.

What you will deliver

Preparation of bp’s sustainability report. Prepare, review, edit and ensure quality control of written copy, applying the bp corporate writing style. Manage content reviews and the substantiation and verification process.

Manage other non-financial reports such as the modern slavery statement, protected areas statement and various indexes, such as GRI and SASB.

Support the bp ESG datasheet and collation of ESG data for corporate reports – working closely with internal subject matter experts (SMEs).

Support with the preparation and implementation of new corporate reporting and ESG disclosure requirements – working with a cross-functional team on disclosure standards and new regulations in the EU, US and UK.

Support sustainability assurance engagement with bp’s auditor – including scoping, coordinating SMEs (including finance) and making sure the work stays on track. Preparing and maintaining key ‘basis of reporting’ documentation.

Manage day-to-day interactions with third parties – to track actions and make sure our partners, such as creative agencies, deliver what we need and know what we need from them.

Support the communication of corporate reports and engagement activity, including drafting emails, report alerts and content for bp.com.

Conduct reporting review and benchmarking, track peer activity, horizon scanning and general research on new legislation or reporting requirements that may impact the team’s work.

Review and update key ESG risk ratings including Sustainalytics, MSCI and others.

What you will need to be successful

Experience:

Proven experience working on corporate reporting / sustainability reporting, ideally in a comparably sized/complex organization.

Knowledge of the ESG ecosystem – ratings providers and data aggregators – and developments (i.e. regulation). Experience working with and responding to requests for information from ESG ratings providers and sustainability benchmarks – such as MSCI, Sustainalytics and Ecovadis.

Knowledge of corporate reporting trends and developments, (across UK, EU and US), understanding of sustainability standards (i.e. ISSB S1 and S2, EU CSRD, GRI, TCFD) and experience implementing them.

A keen interest in the energy sector and an appreciation of the issues facing our business and sector would be useful.

Key skills:

Excellent project management skills and able to manage multiple projects / deadlines whilst collaborating with a varied range of stakeholders to keep projects on track.

Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines.

High level of attention to detail in order to maintain high-quality standards across the work that you produce.

Strong data management, data analysis, and process management skills (including development of required documentation).

Stakeholder engagement / management skills and the ability to work with a variety of internal and external partners.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to present your ideas clearly and instruct others. Demonstrable writing experience and be skills in proofreading and editing.

Systems knowledge including knowledge of Microsoft Apps (particularly Teams and PowerApps/PowerBI). Knowledge of/experience using corporate reporting platforms would be advantageous (but not essential).
