a Sustainability Officer

As a Sustainability Officer your main responsibility is to lead the further development of the Sustainability area, including the actions and implementations, together with Supply Management and other stakeholders in the company. You will also be collaborating with our business lines and especially with sales and operations, utilising strong networking and influencing skills. (S)he is a fact-based challenger who defines ways to find optimal and sustainable flow of goods in the supply chain, shipped from Wärtsilä locations to the end-customers.
The position will preferably be located in Kampen, the Netherlands; Vaasa or Helsinki, Finland; or Trieste, Italy. However, other locations where we have offices in Europe can also be considered, as the role and focus will be global.
What are your main tasks and responsibilities?
Scope 3 emissions reporting from production of materials at supplier until parts are received at customer PowerBI reporting development Internal reporting for GLS and Parts Services Compliance topics involvement like CSRD, PPWR, Plastic tax etc. Boost weekly pick-ups from suppliers and CDC to customer to reduce emissions Establish and lead Sustainability board in WGLS Circular thinking and acting how the current waste within the company can create a new business opportunities (e.g. re-use of materials within the supply chain) Conduct industry benchmarking and collect best practices Marketing sustainability within and outside our company Save costs for our company, suppliers and end-customers Contribute to the current ISO requirement for Wärtsilä related to environmental topics
What do we expect from you?
Master (MSc) or Bachelor’s degree (Bsc/BBA) in Engineering, Business or similar Several years of proven experience in improvements actions / projects related to sustainability Ability to challenge conventional thinking, be creative, think outside the box and look forward Have high integrity, listen with good intention and appreciate feedback Flexible, adaptable and embracing change Understand the value of collaboration and benefits it brings Customer orientated attitude Stress-proof, flexible deployment, independent and enterprising Good leadership and management skills Strong network inside and outside the company to achieve the results General technical and functional knowledge of (ship) diesel engines, propulsion, electro-technology etc. ISO management system knowledge Knowledge of Project Management, Planning Techniques and Continues Improvement Excellent documentation, visualization and presentation skills Knowledge of SAP, PowerBI and QlikView Excellent communication skills, fluency in written and spoken English
