The Sustainability Coordinator will join JLL’s Sustainable Operations - Waste Center of Excellence AMER Team, to support the delivery of waste and sustainability products and services to a range of clients or to a dedicated client portfolio. This position is remote and can be located anywhere in the U.S.
What this job involves
Key responsibilities include:
Provide waste program coordination support across client portfolios in alignment with landfill diversion targets, KPIs, and CPIs
Support sustainable operations team and cross-functional teams in waste program strategy development and execution
Collaborate with internal team members and clients to implement on-the-ground waste initiatives that meet or exceed expectations
Demonstrate subject matter expertise in waste stewardship and circular economy across various industries including commercial properties, industrial, manufacturing, technology, life sciences, healthcare, and public sector
Present qualitative and quantitative results of waste program initiatives utilizing complex data sets for program reviews, MBRs, and QBRs
Develop and lead multiple waste initiatives with high quality and professionalism, adhering to project timelines, budgets, milestones, and deliverables
Draft comprehensive waste-related reporting, trainings, playbooks, policies, education tools, and engagement activities
Lead the development of waste baselines and support the development/refinement of waste management policies and procedures
Oversee team members for desktop and field projects including waste assessments, sustainability program audits, and gap analyses
Conduct forensic waste audits and identify opportunities for upstream and downstream landfill diversion
Coordinate procurement and deployment of waste program resources including centralized bins, signage, and vendor management
Perform due diligence in vetting potential vendors and other value-added market offerings for waste management
Support assessment of opportunities for service level optimization and right-sizing of waste assets, leveraging technology where viable
Partner with stakeholders to determine viable upstream opportunities for waste reduction, such as in Procurement
Address topics such as Scope 3 emissions and embodied carbon as they relate to waste
Maintain understanding of current waste-related regulations, legislation, and reporting requirements at local, state, federal, and global levels
Monitor financial performance of waste initiatives and work with teams to improve performance using data
Support the development of program/project budgets for certifications, program expansions, and other services
Support innovative strategies including zero waste certifications, reverse logistics, vendor takebacks, and donation/reuse models
Support the pursuit of Zero Waste certifications as applicable
Optimize relationships with utility, municipal, and technology partners to improve performance and reduce program costs
Ensure programs comply with all contracts, laws, rules, and regulations governing program activities
Travel locally across portfolio to support program requirements and initiatives
Establish strong working relationships across workstreams to deliver against targets
Network cross-functionally with other service lines (technology, finance, projects, IFM, procurement) to elevate sustainability objectives
Manage changes in partnership with stakeholders that may impact waste program objectives
Track and communicate success stories to ensure awareness and engagement with sustainability programs
Demonstrate innovative thinking and proactive management in service delivery
Provide subject matter expertise for program components and content development related to waste management
Provide guidance, oversight and responsibility to ensure quality and accuracy of timely delivery of waste Data Analyst team members (CORE Team) with the following scopes:
Managing waste data gathering from a wide range of sources
Maintain completeness and accuracy of waste data, property data, etc. in databases to ensure consistency and accuracy of reporting
Resolve account issues by working with waste companies, vendors and/or internal JLL counterparts/divisions to identify appropriate resolutions
Reporting – generate site and portfolio report from data management systems regarding waste disposal and diversion (unregulated and regulated waste, as applicable) and projected diversion and disposal based on identified opportunities
Analyze properties within client portfolio for trends and anomalies and opportunities in waste consumption and disposal and provide variance analysis reporting
Analyze and provide consistent and thorough QA/QC of waste, recycling and composting data

Requirements - Essential
University degree, demonstrating subject matter expertise (e.g., Sustainability related degree; Environmental Engineer, etc.); LEED accreditation preferred
TRUE Zero Waste Advisor accreditation strongly preferred. Familiarity with TRUE certification framework required.
Demonstrated project management experience specific to successful achievement of zero waste certifications, including TRUE Zero Waste strongly preferred. Other zero waste certification experience/knowledge (such as UL) preferred
Knowledge of CDP, GRI, SASB, TCFD, GHG Protocol, rating/ranking agencies, as well as general ESG knowledge
Five plus years’ experience in the sustainable operations and/or engineering of commercial buildings, with experience leading complex waste program(s)
Strong operations experience in large multi-dimensional organization with focus on operations management, productivity, and embody a bias for action
Strong data management experience, including experience and comfortability in developing and presenting consolidated reports to diverse audience, from operations to C-suite
Strong experience specific to waste vendor systems, services, assets/equipment, and vendor management
Strong understanding of the impacts and opportunities dictated by varied regional geographic infrastructure related to waste processing, waste-to-energy, organics, composting/digestion, material recovery facilities
Passionate about working towards a sustainable future
An excellent understanding of the key sustainability issues for corporate occupiers of real estate including, but not limited to: decarbonization, embodied carbon, circularity, resource preservation, biodiversity, climate risk, health & wellbeing, and social value creation
Demonstrated experience in influencing cross-functional teams
Experience working with corporate clients, commercial property, property managers and an understanding of the landlord and tenant relationship is desirable
Excellent ability to build relationships with clients and their internal teams
Proven project management experience and excellent communication skills
Attention to detail and accuracy in written and numeric work
Ability to obtain buy-in and engagement from employees at all levels
Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite to combine and analyse data from various sources, and generate reports and graphics. Must be able to combine large volumes of data for consolidated reporting.
Ability to perform data analysis and identify the gaps and trends in data
Detail-oriented with excellent time management and follow-through.
Ability to communicate effectively and provide detailed or brief explanation of the data analysis results
Elevated understanding of waste and recycling fundamentals
Comfortable developing accurate waste reporting and leading client-facing communications
Comfortable presenting to large audiences across various levels or responsibility
Elevated understanding of waste data and waste calculations, including landfill diversion metrics and waste baselines
Familiarity with waste/sustainability related certification and benchmarking tools

Estimated total compensation for this position:
