In this important role, you will support the administrative and operational functions of L.L.Bean’s in-house legal team, with a focus on intellectual property, licensing, and sustainability. You’ll play a key part in helping the legal department run efficiently while ensuring compliance and alignment with our brand values and regulatory obligations.
Responsibilities:
Conduct legal and regulatory research on various topics through independent research, industry calls and benchmarking, and suggest appropriate actions in response.
Monitor emerging state environmental and sustainability regulations at the state, federal, and international levels (e.g., Cal-Prop 65, PFAS, EPR-packaging/textiles, CA’s TCFD, emissions reporting); attend industry meetings (RILA and AAFA) and assess current and future business impact.
Assist in preparing sustainability-related disclosures and reports, including data collection, validation, and public-facing documents.
Develop and maintain documentation for sustainability-related compliance programs, including SOPs and training materials.
Handle both routine and non-standard regulatory filings, such as city-level business licenses (e.g., weights and measures) and state-level sales data reporting (e.g., stuffed articles).
Handle intellectual property monitoring and enforcement, facilitate trademark searches, and assist with managing the IP portfolio.
Assist in managing compliance matters across the organization, such as in the categories of marketing and product safety.
Additional research/benchmarking and tasks as assigned.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects or priorities.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Knowledge of regulations and reporting standards preferred.
