Job SummaryThe Survey Research Center (SRC) Health and Retirement Study (HRS) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR) is looking for a bilingual survey instrument tester. The HRS is a longitudinal national survey of more than 20,000 people and focuses on the health and economics of aging and retirement.
Reporting to the Instrument Testing Coordinator, you will conduct survey instrument testing, and translation in both English and Spanish languages. You will work in a team environment that allows for both independent and collaborative work.
Responsibilities*If you join our team, you will:Conduct systematic Computer Assisted Interview (CAI) survey instrument testingIdentify and document program errors and changes in the instrumentProvide translation, proofing, and editing of questionnaires, respondent newsletters, letters, brochures, and consent formsTranslate interviewer and respondent comments from Spanish to EnglishMaintain comprehensive testing protocols and support materialsPrepare questionnaire documentation for internal review board submission, project staff use, and distribution to the research communityRequired Qualifications*Bachelor's degree in social sciences or related field with experience in survey research, or equivalent combination of education and experienceFluency in English and Spanish languages, including highly developed language comprehension ability in both languagesPrior translation experience that includes attention to cultural nuances and adapting content for target audiencesOne or more years of progressively responsible experience in survey research or related areaProficiency using standard office and relational database softwareExperience completing assignments on deadlineExperience composing basic instructions, memos, documents, and manualsWork LocationsYou will be on-site in Ann Arbor, MI during your training period, after which there is potential for flexible scheduling and remote opportunities available within our overall SRC policies.
