UPMC Shadyside is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Part-Time Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic Operating Room team. This role offers a flexible schedule with a mix of day shifts (6:30 AM – 3:00 PM) and evening shifts (10:30 AM – 7:00 PM), with no on-call, weekend, or holiday requirements—giving you the work-life balance you deserve.

Surgical Support Responsibilities:
Preoperative Duties:
Prepare operating room with surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions. Assemble and check both sterile and non-sterile equipment to ensure functionality. Prepare patients by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites; transport and position them on the operating table, then apply sterile drapes.Intraoperative Assistance:
Assist surgical team with sterile gowning and gloving. Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons during procedures. Handle retractors, cut sutures, manage sponges, and provide suctioning at the operative site. Count instruments, needles, and sponges to maintain surgical safety.Postoperative & Room Maintenance:
Transfer patients to recovery as needed. Clean and restock the operating room after procedures. Ensure a clean and safe environment, adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.Collaboration & Education:
Serve as a preceptor for students and new staff; share best practices and clinical knowledge. Participate in interdisciplinary teams and committees. Collaborate with clinicians to implement and disseminate new knowledge.Specimen & Medication Handling:
Assist with care, labeling, and disposal of specimens for lab analysis. Apply dressings as needed. Ensure all medications are properly labeled and passed to the surgeon per protocol.
