Surgical Assistant

The Surgical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting oral surgeons during procedures and ensuring patient comfort throughout the surgical process. This position is responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting the surgeon during procedures, sterilizing instruments, and providing post-operative care instructions to patients. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, compassionate, and experienced in clinical settings, capable of managing both administrative and clinical tasks efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Surgical Preparation:
- Prepare the surgical room by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary equipment, and ensuring all materials are ready for the procedure.
- Review patient charts and confirm pre-operative requirements (e.g., consent forms, medical history).
2. Intraoperative Assistance:
- Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by passing instruments, suctioning, and monitoring patient vital signs.
- Maintain a sterile field and ensure that infection control protocols are followed at all times.
3. Post-Operative Care:
- Provide patients with clear post-operative care instructions and ensure they understand aftercare procedures.
- Assist in escorting patients out of the surgical area, ensuring they are comfortable post-procedure.
4. Instrument Sterilization and Maintenance:
- Clean and sterilize all instruments and equipment according to clinic protocols.
- Regularly inspect and maintain surgical tools and equipment to ensure they are functioning correctly.
5. Patient Interaction and Communication:
- Serve as a liaison between the patient and the clinical team, answering any questions and addressing concerns before and after surgery.
- Ensure patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
6. Administrative Duties:
- Assist with updating patient charts, recording procedures, and maintaining accurate medical records.
- Coordinate with the front desk to manage patient scheduling, follow-up appointments, and insurance information.
