Position Overview
This position is responsible for working with the Surgery Scheduling & Authorizations team to l oversee the scheduling of surgical procedures, ensuring efficient coordination between patients, surgeons, and healthcare facilities. This position will manage insurance authorizations, verifying coverage and obtaining necessary approvals for procedures.
This position will also practice personal accountability and coordinates staff to be personally accountable for achieving set goals and objectives as well as mission and core values. Assumes daily responsibility for the overall operations of the surgery scheduling and authorization team initiatives so that quality patient care is delivered in the most cost-effective manner while enhancing the quality, compliance, and safety of care delivery.
Essential Functions
· Monitor all surgery schedulers to ensure efficiency, coordination of care and schedule surgical procedures, ensuring optimal use of operating room time.
· Authorize and manage pre-approvals from insurance providers and verify patient eligibility.
· Patient Communication: Provide patients with pre-operative instructions, financial estimates, and necessary paperwork.
· Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and hospital staff to ensure seamless scheduling.
· Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of surgery schedules, authorizations, and patient records.
· Responsible for addressing scheduling conflicts, insurance denials, and last-minute changes efficiently.
· Remain knowledgeable of hospital policies, insurance regulations, and HIPAA guidelines to ensure organizational compliance.
· Follows and meets performance measurement goals outlined by the VP of operations.
· Work on special projects and/or other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge/Skills Abilities Preferred
· Bachelor’s degree preferred
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in surgery scheduling and authorizations
· Strong Leadership and managerial skills required
· Excellent communication and presentation skills.
· Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and maintain organizational compliance, policies, and procedures.
· Ability to manage staff effectively and efficiently.
· Proficient with computers (including but not limited to Microsoft Office and EHR applications) required.
· Strong ability to multi -task and handle stressful situations in a fast-paced environment
