UFG is currently seeking a Surety Underwriter Trainee to join our team. This individual will experience on the job training to develop the employee's ability to determine acceptability of contract surety submissions, perform analysis of financial statements, read applications, analyze credit reports, as well as learn to use other sources of investigation.
The training program will teach the employee to work toward a profitable and controlled level of growth by servicing the business and meeting or exceeding the department annual goals and objectives. The program will show the employee how to make recommendations on existing accounts. Through travel with surety representatives, the employee will learn to make successful agency visits, conduct beneficial contractor visits, and market our surety products to existing and new agents.
The ideal candidate would reside in the Atlanta, Georgia or Denver, Colorado or surrounding areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Successfully complete a comprehensive surety underwriting training program consisting of mentoring, self-study, and on-line learning. Gain an understanding and develop analytical skills on how to investigate, analyze, and underwrite surety business profitably. Gain exposure and skills on various software platforms. Underwrite new submissions and existing account with assistance from mentors. Evaluate and assess financial status, credit standing, and organization profile to analyze and determine acceptability of the risk within framework of UFG underwriting policies and procedures. Handle all confidential information with discretion. Assist surety underwriters in processing their books of business. Upload and update file information electronically and purge obsolete data per department guidelines. Provide high quality customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers.Job Specifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, or combination of education and surety experience. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, finance or accounting preferred.Certifications/Designations:
Employees are expected to participate in continuing education throughout their careers. Certified, or working towards, AFSB designation, preferred.Experience:
2+ years of professional work experience preferred.Working Conditions:
General office environment. Accompany surety representatives to visit agency force and contract accounts. May be exposed to weather conditions, and/or results and debris of adverse weather conditions, during agency/contract visits.Disclaimer
