**Job Summary**
Supervises and directs the operation of the Radioactive Material Control program, including all associated elements of the program: Radioactive Material (RM) characterization, packaging, shipping and receipt, Radioactive Waste (RW) characterization, packaging, and shipping, Waste stream sample analyses for 10CFR61 and Toxic Chemical Leaching Program (TCLP) compliance, RM/RW labeling, movement, and storage, radioactive source control, inventory, leak testing, and disposal, and operation of the Clean Waste Segregation Facility. Provides direct supervision to assigned staff and coordinates the daily work of employees performing Radioactive Material/Waste activities. Reviews vendor analysis results, RM/RW characterization software output, and documentation prepared by employees during completion of daily work. Prepares and submits Solid Waste and Irradiated Fuel Shipment data for inclusion in the Annual Radioactive Effluent Release Report. Reviews and revises applicable procedures for technical and regulatory consistency. Keeps abreast of all changes in regulations, processor, and burial site criteria applicable to the movement, transportation, and storage of RM/RW. Ensures shipments of RM/RW are properly packaged, labeled, loaded, secured, and documented to satisfy federal, state, processor, burial site, and station procedure criteria. Ensures station radioactive material transport licenses and personnel specialty training (e.g., HAZMAT, International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations) and personnel qualification list (IE-79-19) are maintained current. Ensures compliance with radwaste disposal budget and works with departmental representatives to coordinate disposal of/funding for RW generated as result of special projects. Interfaces with and ensures compliance with applicable regulatory agencies such as NRC, INPO, ANSI, and state requirements. Reviews and evaluates Radiological Protection reports, operating experiences, and key parameters to keep management apprised of all significant Radioactive Material Program issues, trends, and events. Provides technical support, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for RP issues and special projects identified by management. Performs specified duties as a key member of the station Emergency Response Organization. Performs specified duties in support of the station's Corrective Action System, Self-Assessment, and Benchmarking programs.
**Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience**
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
-5 years (with preferred Bachelor's degree) of radiation safety procedures and radwaste procedures and requirements. Completion of a Health Physics program with several years of demonstrated work experience. (In lieu of preferred related Bachelor's degree, may substitute related Associate's degree and 7+ years of directly related experience or High School diploma/GED and 9+ years of directly related experience that demonstrates knowledge of relevant fundamental theories, principles and concepts.)
-Ability to correctly interpret and apply DOL transportation regulations.
-Ability to ensure that the disposal of radiation waste is performed in a manner that ensures the health and safety of all employees, contractors, and the general public.
-Strong organizational skills, ability to coordinate daily work assignments and oversee material/waste activities. Detailed oriented, demonstrated ability and skill in reviewing and interpreting technical documentation and regulations.
-Excellent analytical skills, skill in evaluating radiological reports, identifying trends or changes in regulatory requirements to determine impact on policies, procedures, and practices.
-Skill in program management which ensures that radiation exposures resulting from its operations are maintained within regulatory and administrative limits, and that such exposures are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
-Good leadership skills, previous supervisory or team lead skills strongly desired.

**Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:**
Bachelor
**Preferred Disciplines:** Physics, Biology, Engineering, Physical Science

**Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description**
Must meet applicable location specific minimum education, experience, and training requirements specified by the American National Standard Industrial (ANSI) for the qualification and training of nuclear power plant personnel.
