Position Summary: Supports the Materials Management operations in Surgical Services/Clnical Units through active involvement in the daily operations of the supply chain.

 

Scope of Job:  The Surgical Services Supply Technician will facilitate the sourcing, procurement, storage, distribution and returns of all supplies utilized within the Surgical Services and Clinical Departments to ensure adequate levels of supplies for surgical procedures based on specialty and volume. Additionally, the Technician will act as a liaison between the Purchasing Department and the Surgical Services Department. Perform a variety of duties relative to the assigned area of responsibility. The position requires the ability to communicate and work closely and efficiently with others in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

Perform a variety of stockroom functions including receiving goods and processing shipments for delivery. Inspect shipments of materials, equipment and supplies received; identify and immediately report shortages, damaged goods, expirations, or other discrepancies. Distribute incoming shipments according to established procedures. Implement processes and controls for the sound management of inventory within Surgical Services Utilizes and maintains the Materials Management Information System (MMIS) for the Surgical Services and Clinical Units Departments. Maintains the Surgical Services and Clinical Units Storeroom as a perpetual inventory secondary supply location within the MMIS system. Collaborates with Surgical Services Staff, Physicians, Materials Management, and Vendors to promote and practice inventory control principles. Implement and maintain successful purchase order process for Surgical Services Maintain stockroom in a safe, clean, and orderly condition; participate in cleaning rotation. Receive telephone calls and provide information related to stockroom activities as required. Operate a variety of machines and equipment such as manual and electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, hand carts and elevators. Operate a personal computer and peripheral equipment, using modern software; operate a variety of other machines and equipment. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Work closely with management to learn and to develop the best practices and procedures and find ways to increase productivity.

Has the ability to take direction and work independently with minimal supervision.

 

Required Qualifications:

Methods and techniques of handling equipment, materials, and supplies. Methods and techniques of shipping and receiving. Principles and procedures of record keeping. Modern office procedures, methods or materials and equipment including computers. Basic mathematical principles. Possesses flexibility and ability to adapt to new situations, procedures, and routines. Good work and attendance record.

 

Education and/or Experience:

High School graduate

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic math skills.

 

 Reasoning Ability:

Ability to prioritize and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations on a day-to-day basis where limited standardization may exist. Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram or schedule form.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

Perform materials receipt and distribution activities. Provide information and assistance to staff members in a helpful, courteous, and timely manner. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Skill to operate material handling equipment such as hand carts, pallet jacks (manual and motorized), cardboard bailer etc. for successful job performance. Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with faculty and staff.

Must be able to push/pull a cart weighing up to150 pounds. Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that require close vision.
