Job Description
Position Summary:
The First Shift Supplies Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing assigned personnel to achieve operational excellence in Safety, Quality, Service, Productivity, and Cost Reduction. This role provides leadership and strategic direction for the designated area of the facility, ensuring alignment with internal and external customer requirements. The Supervisor directly supervises personnel, manages performance, and makes recommendations regarding hiring and termination in accordance with company policy.
The Supplies Department is responsible for the customized printing, encoding, and finishing of labels and tags, utilizing flexographic equipment. This position requires a detail-oriented and technically proficient individual with the ability to troubleshoot equipment, resolve quality and productivity issues, collaborate with support personnel, and maintain effective communication across shifts.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Performance Management:
Directly supervise employees, monitor work progress, and adjust schedules to meet production demands.
Manage workload distribution to optimize capacity utilization and the effective deployment of labor, tools, and equipment.
Provide coaching, training, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Conduct performance evaluations, address performance issues, and make recommendations regarding personnel actions, including promotions and terminations, in accordance with company policy.
Maintain accurate records and schedules related to timekeeping, overtime, and vacation.
Serve as a positive role model and change agent, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on achieving individual and organizational goals.
Operational Excellence:
Drive the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs), including Safety, Quality, Productivity, Housekeeping, On-Time Delivery, and Training.
Analyze data to inform daily operational needs, identify areas for improvement, and enhance team performance.
Provide timely and effective problem resolution for critical operational issues.
Develop and implement operational improvement strategies to enhance safety, cost efficiency, quality, training effectiveness, inventory management, and service excellence.
Actively pursue opportunities to reduce manufacturing waste and process complexity.
Quality and Process Improvement:
Maintain rigorous quality control processes to ensure products and services meet established standards.
Lead the implementation of process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
Ensure adherence to best practices and standard operating procedures through regular business audits.
Safety and Continuous Improvement:
Lead 5S initiatives, maintain housekeeping standards, and promote recycling programs.
Champion a safety-conscious work environment and actively participate in safety initiatives.
Represent the team, providing well-reasoned suggestions and recommendations for process and procedure improvements in alignment with organizational goals for cost, quality, safety, and productivity.
Collaborate with other functional departments to resolve issues and improve manufacturing processes.
QualificationsQualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of operational experience, with prior team leadership experience strongly preferred.
Prior experience in a flexographic printing environment preferred.
Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and applying lean manufacturing principles.
Proven ability to design and implement operational improvement strategies targeting safety, cost efficiency, quality enhancement, training effectiveness, inventory management, and service excellence.
Demonstrated capacity to effectively manage, coach, and develop a diverse team.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with lean manufacturing methodologies (e.g., 5S, Kaizen).
Six Sigma certification.
Knowledge of printing industry standards and best practices.
