Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to support supplier development, non-conformance resolution, and quality performance improvement activities. This is a contract position with immediate availability required, based in Gauteng, for a duration of 3 to 6 months.
The ideal candidate will bring over 10 years of experience in supplier quality management within the automotive or rail industry, with strong technical acumen, problem-solving capabilities, and a proactive approach to supplier engagement and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and close open Non-Conformity Reports (NCRs) with suppliers in line with project timelines and quality standardsDrive root cause analysis and corrective actions (e.g. 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa) to ensure sustainable resolution of supplier issuesSupport incoming inspection and quality gate activities to prevent defective parts from entering productionConduct supplier audits, assessments, and follow-up visits to ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO 9001, IRIS, etc.)Collaborate with engineering, procurement, logistics, and manufacturing teams to support supplier industrialisation and process capabilityImplement and monitor supplier KPIs and improvement plans where necessaryProvide technical guidance and mentoring to junior quality or engineering staff if requiredPrepare and maintain quality documentation for reporting to internal stakeholders and external clientsRequirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering (or related field)Minimum 10 years of experience in supplier quality roles within the automotive or rail sectorIn-depth knowledge of quality tools and methodologies: 8D, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSAExperience working with Tier-1/Tier-2 suppliers and managing escalated quality issuesStrong communication and negotiation skills when dealing with suppliers and cross-functional teamsFamiliarity with relevant standards and audit practices (IATF, ISO, IRIS)Availability to start immediately and based in GautengQualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering (or related field)
