Supplier Quality Development Engineer

The Supplier Quality Development Engineer (SQD) for Powertrain at Stellantis is accountable for leading and managing suppliers through advanced quality planning and process development to ensure high operational efficiency, robust industrialization, and capable manufacturing processes that meet Stellantis quality and capacity requirements.

 

This role requires close collaboration with internal and external Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing teams to ensure appropriate designs, suppliers, and manufacturing processes are selected, validated, and refined from early development through launch and into production.

 

As a key driver of supplier performance, the Powertrain SQE leads root cause analysis and structured problem-solving efforts, drives process improvements, and ensures deployment of best practices and lessons learned across programs. The SQE serves as the technical expert for the manufacturing processes and technologies associated with propulsion system components.

 

Typical propulsion components in scope include:

Electric Drive Modules (EDM) Battery Packs and Modules Power Electronics (Inverters, Converters, On-Board Chargers) Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) components (when applicable) Transmissions and eAxles Thermal management systems related to propulsion Driveline Systems (Axles, Driveshafts, Half Shafts, Transfer Cases, PTU/RDM, FDU/RDU) Specific Processes (Stampings, Castings, Forgings, etc.)

The SQE partners with suppliers to evaluate and develop their manufacturing processes, establish robust quality systems, and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality components to Stellantis assembly plants. This includes regular onsite supplier visits and audits, providing technical feedback, and ensuring corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented.

 

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Process Sign-Off (PPAP) for propulsion system suppliers Assess and develop supplier manufacturing processes for quality, capacity, and capability Drive resolution of supplier-related quality issues from pre-production through post-launch Serve as the technical authority for propulsion manufacturing processes Conduct supplier readiness reviews and launch support, including run-at-rate and PPAP validation Collaborate cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement initiatives and quality alignment Lead problem solving activities for supplier manufacturing related issues

Basic Qualifications: 

Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering from an ABET accredited university Minimum 5 years' work experience in quality, engineering, production, manufacturing or related field Self-motivated/ organized/ accountable and with a strong sense of urgency / able to prioritize with minimal supervision Strong Communication, analytical and negotiation skills at all levels of management Team building, coaching and program management skills Ability to travel within the North America Region Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

MBA or Engineering Master's Degree Strong Presentation Skills Strong conflict resolution skills Experience in Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Engineering or Manufacturing Green Belt or Black Belt Certification
