SUPERVISORY SPECIAL MISSION AVIATOR (INSTRUCTOR)
Summary This SUPERVISORY SPECIAL MISSION AVIATOR (INSTRUCTOR) position, is located in an Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Unit, Operations Directorate and is part of the CA 129 RQW. Responsibilities THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION. The primary purpose of the SUPERVISORY SPECIAL MISSION AVIATOR (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2185-11, is to supervise special mission aviation operations and ensures that SMAs are current and qualified and appropriately manned for the HH-60G and CV-22 aircraft. May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance. Requirements Conditions of Employment CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Military technicians must be assigned to a military position in the same unit which they are employed or, in a unit that is supported by the employing activity. Military technicians must hold the military grade specified for the position. Priority Areas(s) of Consideration: Priority consideration is first given to the areas below. AREA I= Current California National Guard employees who are serving on a Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary appointment. AREA II= Current California National Guard members. Military Grades: E-7 through E-9 Recruitment/Relocation Recruitment/Relocation Incentive MAY BE authorized, subject to funding and approval. PCS Relocation Costs IS NOT authorized based on determination that Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is not in the Government best interest. Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance. Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards. Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade and job assignment as required by current directives. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. May be required to travel in military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments. Must be instructor qualified, maintaining proficiency in the Principles of Instruction. Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in flight standardization evaluation examinations to include random no notice evaluations. The incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy missions (up to 24 hours duration), must work in confined, hazardous noise areas, is subject to inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions during flight, and may operate in austere location. Qualifications General Experience: Possess experience establishing policies and procedures for accomplishment of special mission functions; experience performing special mission aviation duties; experience serving as a flight examiner as required and performing staff duties. SUPERVISORY SPECIAL MISSION AVIATOR (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2185-11: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 level, in: developing goals and objectives that integrate organization and special mission objectives; experiencing operating aircraft radio systems, airborne weapons systems, and associated equipment; experience reviewing aircraft incidents, operational hazards, and accident reports, bulletins, and directives pertinent to flying safety.
