JOB SUMMARY

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities related to the shipping and logistics functions to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods. The role requires close collaboration with Manufacturing Operations, Quality Assurance, Sales, and Planning to optimize the flow of materials and products while maintaining high standards of service and efficiency. This role will also manage the shipping team (shipping clerks and shipping hourly production), ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and industry regulations.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES  Expected to assist in the implementation of Howmet Aerospace’s EHS value and policy statement and its accompanying principles; Comply with all department, facility, Corporate and Regulatory EH&S regulations. Wear all required personal protective equipment; Report all job-related illness and injuries. (Per employee handbook); Report all Safety, Health & Environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner; Attend all EH&S training.

JOB Responsibilities Supervises an effective team; provides guidance, development, feedback (positive and negative) to build a high-performing team, includes planning and holding meetings to flow down information, set clear performance expectations and monitors progress with preparing and conducting performance appraisals as appropriate, managing staffing levels (including vacations, overtime, and leaves of absences), assisting with career development (motivates, coaches, and trains to acquire maximum quality, productivity, morale, and cooperation), approving time and attendance, and prioritizing and making work assignments.  Directs training and orientation of employees to ensure EHS rules are known and understood and acquaint employees with company policies, practices, and procedures. Foster a work environment that encourages continuous improvement and open communication among team members.  Collaborate with Manufacturing Operations, Quality Assurance, Sales, and Planning teams to ensure alignment of shipping and inventory requirements.  Work closely with Planning to ensure that the availability of materials aligns with production schedules and customer demand.  Serve as the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding logistics & shipping. Plans, develop, and implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials. Ensure all outgoing shipments are prepared, documented, and shipped accurately and on time. Coordinate with Planning, Quality, Plant Sales, and Manufacturing Operations to prioritize shipments based on customer needs and production schedules.  Verify the accuracy of shipping documentation (e.g., bills of lading, invoices, packing slips) and ensure compliance with applicable shipping regulations. Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers and shipping carriers to optimize costs and delivery performance.  Lead development and management of standard work for shipping office personnel to ensure maintenance of customer portal redundancy and adequate cross training.  Maintain accurate records of finished goods and collaborate with the Planning team to ensure inventory accuracy. Oversee the transportation and movement of goods both internally and externally to optimize lead times and costs.  Develop and implement strategies to streamline logistics processes, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency.  Ensure compliance with international, federal, and local transportation regulations, including customs clearance for international shipments.  Monitor and manage transportation budgets and track performance metrics to ensure cost-effectiveness. Complies with all EHS rules required for the work environment. Performs other duties, as assigned.

SKILLS:

Strong knowledge of logistics, shipping, and receiving processes. Experience with logistics software Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally. Ability to lead and develop a team. Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices. 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. Min of 5 years’ experience in Logistics and Shipping. Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing environment. Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred but not required High School Diploma or GED equivalency This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee; Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.      Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) Must be able to work flexible hours including night and weekends with little advanced notice; Working knowledge of Oracle business systems preferred. Typing experience necessary. Knowledge of the PC extremely helpful. 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment or previous clerical experience a plus. Willing to work flexible hours
