13263BRJob Description:U. S. Steel Tubular has an immediate opening for a Quality Assurance – Lab Manager at its steelmaking and pipe threading facility located in Fairfield, Alabama. Reporting to the Senior Quality Manger in Alabama, the Lab Manager position with have the responsibility of overseeing the Steelmaking’s Chemical Labs and the Pipemill’s Mechanical labs. Successful candidates demonstrate their commitment to safety, environmental compliance, quality, and ethics by following U.S. Steel’s core values. U.S. Steel tubular manufactures a full line of threaded pipe for Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) and Standard and Line (S&L) pipe.
Responsibilities:
+ Foster a culture, including ways of working and behaviors, that is congruent with our mission, values, and success model.
+ Manage represented employees associated with the Test Labs in different locations within the facility.
+ Control the policies, procedures and activities of the labs to ensure the accuracy of its results and the facility's compliance to ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ASTM, NACE, and API standards’ requirements based on industry and customer specifications.
+ Maintain the equipment and resources necessary for the Testing Labs.
+ Maintain and improve the laboratory’s quality management system.
+ Continually improve the efficient operations of the Test Labs.
+ Prevent, Identify and correct departures from the Quality System.
+ Manage external lab testing activities, e.g. NACE tests at a 3rd party test lab
Requirements:
+ A bachelor’s degree is preferred, with a Bachelor of Science or an equivalent qualification being especially desirable; however, it is not a requirement.
+ 5+ year with chemical and/or mechanical labs testing
+ 5+ year managing a workforce
+ Testing knowledge of chemical analysis with spectrometers or x-rays
+ Testing knowledge of tensile testing, Charpy impact testing, hardness testing, steel metallography, and tubular collapse testing.
+ Knowledge of ISO 17025, ISO 9001, and ASTM Standards
+ Familiarity with NACE, API 5CT and API 5L standards
+ Proficient in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis tools, including AI tools.
+ Strong technical writing skills.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments.
+ Auditing experience and training conducting internal quality audits.
+ Knowledge of testing equipment, writing procedures, and testing.
