The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

This position is intended for individuals with prior experience working as a histotechnologist and possessing ASCP certification in Histotechnology. The individual in this position will be capable of performing all routine histopathology functions, handle escalated issues and troubleshoot quality issues. The individual is responsible for providing supervisory oversight for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory.

Qualifications:

Required:

Minimum three years’ experienceMeet all of the qualifications listed in the Policy for Minimum  

Preferred:

Associates degree in Biological/Physical sciences or equivalent combination of education and experienceBS degree in biological/physical sciencesHTL (ASCP)Graduate of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program4 years of histopathology experience, with 1-2 years in a leadership roleImmunohistochemistry experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

HT-ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) registry

Essential Functions:

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Histology laboratory and supervision of the technical and support staff. In conjunction with the operations manager/director, ensures that all departmental policies and procedures meet the standards of current state and federal regulationsCoordinate and supervise the histotechs, laboratory assistants, grossing personnel, and other support staffSchedule and maintain adequate coverage and effective utilization of personnelMonitor and control expenses in line with department budgetMaintain appropriate levels of supplies and reagents commensurate with workloadProvide technical instructions and training of personnel in techniques, instrumentation, and organization of workMaintain a current procedure manual, reviewing and revising as neededInterview and select potential employees in conjunction with the ManagerWrite and conduct employee performance evaluationsEnsure that all employees follow all company and department policies; initiate performance improvement with employees, as neededParticipate in company meetings and conduct departmental meetings, when applicableMaintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition, recognize any malfunctions and troubleshootCommunicates with the Histopathology Technical Supervisor and Senior Medical Director/Laboratory Director as appropriateMaintain attendance records; approve overtime and vacation timeEnsure proper time record editingEnsure the technical quality, so that the Pathologists can adequately evaluate prepared slidesEnsure that all outstanding cases are reconciledMaintain appropriate quality assurance documentationEnsure that all employees comply with all safety regulations, including personal protective equipmentComplete successfully all personnel departmental training and competency assessmentsPerform special projects, as assigned by the operations manager/directorProvide backup for bench Histotechnicians/Histotechnologists in sectioning and stainingEnsure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are metOther duties, as assigned by manager
