Job Overview:
Supervises, coordinates and participates in the activities of staff performing various microscopic and immunohistochemical tests of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytologic specimens to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs additional tasks as requested by the Chairman of Pathology or his/her designee.

Supervises day to day operations of cytologyEnsures the section of Cytology is appropriately staffed with competent personnelPrepares work schedules and assigns duties to staff in Cytopathology LaboratoryCompletes performance evaluations of employees using hospital guidelines, policies and proceduresParticipates in the training of post-graduate trainees and cytotechnology students; participates in required and voluntary continuing education programs to reach professional growth objectivesParticipates in interviewing, hiring and termination processProvides orientation to new employees in procedures and techniques utilizedPrepares appropriate material for educational workshops, lectures and training eventsDemonstrates to staff newly approved methods to implement standard proceduresProvides leadership and technical oversight of the Cytology sectionEstablishes and supervises implementation of quality standards for cytotechniqueScreens Cytologic material and formulates a written interpretation for each case and correlates cases with histopathologist when applicablePerforms hierarchial review of all non-gynecological and abnormal cervico vaginal casesRescreens 10 percent of all negative cases as a part of quality control and an additional measure to identify possible false negative cases,Prepares and maintains records of all Quality Assurance activitiesGenerates monthly and yearly reports on workload of Cytopathology LaboratoryPrepares gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens including determining acceptability of specimens, accessioning cyto preparation and stainingInspects instruments and equipment to ensure proper working condition; determines if results are accurate and documents in log bookPerforms clerical duties including obtaining case histories and reports, answering telephone, duplicating reports and other documents, sorting and distributing reports, maintaining files according to numerical system and preparing records for inside and outside reviewConsults with Chief of Cytology section to organize the daily work and make plans for future growth objectivesWrites and updates procedure manuals as neededContributes to the department and medical centers financial health through the monitoring of expense Assists in implementing the control and effective utilization of the physical and financial resources of the departmentMaintains appropriate levels of inventoryAssists in capital and operating budgetsMonitors staffing levelsOther duties as assignedBenefits and Perks:
